Photos: Preparing for Hurricane Florence

While Hurricane Florence appears to have slowed somewhat on its approach toward the southern coast of North Carolina, forecasts are now predicting patterns that may cause the storm to stall along the shoreline, possibly spinning in place for days and dropping up to three feet of rain in some areas. More than a million people are under evacuation orders across a broad swath of the East Coast, and they have been busy preparing their homes, packing their valuables, and making their way out of town. Florence is now expected to make landfall sometime on Saturday, near Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

I wouldn't be surprised to see North Topsail Beach (NC) basically gone--condemned--by the time this is over. They've been fighting beach erosion for years along the inlet and it doesn't look good for crashing waves and storm surge there.

I love Topsail Island. Lots of vacations there. I hope it survives this one.

We went through Katrina in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi.

Looking at that photo of Topsail Beach -- looks exactly like neighborhoods outside Bay St. Louis and Waveland, MS. I predict that entire area will be gone. Disappear. Nothing but row upon row of pilings. The houses and contents will be washed ashore into huge debris piles, or, washed out to sea.

Thanks for posting but I have one question. Why stop sale of booze? What's the reasoning for that?
