Every state office is up today (though there isn't a competitive race in all of them). There is something for all DUers to watch...
There is something in NY called the IDC. The IDC is a group of NY state senate "Democrats" that caucus with the republicans. This gives control of the NY State Senate to republicans. The IDC has supposedly "dissolved", but they are still spending IDC funds in elections to protect IDC traitors. Today is reckoning day. There are 8 IDC Democrats as well as 1 Democrat that caucuses with the republicans. Thankfully they all have primary challengers and almost all are very competitive.
If you live in NY and live in an IDC district, please vote for the IDC Challenger. The districts and challengers are:
NY SD 11: John Liu
NY SD 13: Jessica Ramos
NY SD 20: Zellnor Myrie
NY SD 23: Jasmine Robinson
NY SD 31: Robert Jackson
NY SD 34: Alessandra Biaggi (Running against the IDC leader Jeff Klein)
NY SD 38: Julie Goldberg
NY SD 53: Rachel May
NY SD 17: Blame Morris (Running against traitor Sichma Felder)

The only other interesting race in NY is state attorney general. The party favorite is Letitia James. There isn't a lot of polling in this race with leaners factored so it's going to be interesting to see who wins. My opinion of this race is that James is not very impressive and is running on a virtual ticket with Cuomo. The state might be better served by supporting Leecia Eve. Leecia Eve is more geared towards Washington, but she has a good resume and would probably make a good AG. She would also be a good Senator if a seat opens up. Sean Patrick Maloney is running, but it doesn't seem like his heart is into it. He's too Washington for this position. Zephyr Teachout is running. She has no experience and is very bookish. She also wasn't a member of the NY Bar prior to a couple weeks ago. I think Zephyr understands theory, but not practice and would have difficulty running such an important office.
So keep an eye out for tonight. It would be a good night for Democrats if the IDC challengers come close to sweeping out the traitors.

A bunch of progressives win legislative primaries
Me.
(35,454 posts)I like Leticia who is supported by Maxine Waters. And don't you mean we want to sweep out the traitors...
I have to say Nixon's chant at her rally, which I saw on the news made me laugh. Vote for the Homo not for Cuomo. What will be interesting is how many people vote for her...I have friends who are saying they will to send a warning to Cuomo.

(3,428 posts)If the Democrats can win control of the legislature, perhaps they can consolidate the primaries to July or early August

One thing to think about: despite IDC's alliance with the Senate Republicans, none of the incumbents have had a problem getting elected in the past several election cycles. And this isn't a Joe Crowley asleep at the wheel situation.

(81,866 posts)So it's definitely an uphill battle, but the best move is to flush out the traitors and then work to get better.

(81,866 posts)I don't have a strong opinion. I know the NY Times endorsed the challenger which was surprising.
