DALLAS—Crime-scene evidence from Botham Jean’s apartment supports Dallas police Officer Amber Guyger’s account that she shot Jean from across the room as she stood inside his apartment door, two law enforcement officials with direct knowledge of the case told The Dallas Morning News.

The evidence, at least so far, doesn’t conclusively determine whether the door was unlocked or ajar.

“We just don’t know,” said one of the two law enforcement officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they aren’t authorized to discuss the case publicly.

Jean’s family has said they don’t believe he would leave the door open ...

At least, that is what I read online. If the door was standing ajar, then why would she yell "Open the door!" several times? Also, I saw a demonstration that these doors automatically swing shut.

... The video obtained by the Daily Mail with the help of a neighbor living on the same floor shows the heavy metal fire door shuts on its own.

The Daily Mail report also shows that the door lock for the key to each residence is electric. If the wrong key is entered, then a red light will flash.

The video also shows that for the door to be ajar, it would have to be held open with a door stopper.

Guyger stated in police documents that she mistakenly arrived outside the residence because she parked on the fourth-floor parking lot rather than the third. She then claimed when she went to open the door assuming the residence was her home ...

The problem is that nothing has been said about the locks or search of the suspect's apartment -- which, due to them not arresting her and processing her apartment immediately as well, adds to lack of transparency.

I know it's a rhetorical question. They never even applied for a search warrant for that.

the weed grinder and the baggies with pot in them.

And the police ballistics vest and black backpack with police equipment and paperwork ? Why is the police stuff on the list? Highly suspect.

Seems they're trying to imply he lived a double life instead of just the good-natured, religious guy with a good job.

It's so easy to plant stuff in his place with their warrant and no witnesses to the "search". And no corresponding search of the killer's apartment, who is now out on bail and free to come and go.

This isn't assault.

This isn't brutality.

This is cold-blooded murder.

They are desperate to re-direct all attention onto Mssr. Jean, as if he did something wrong. This is all a smoke screen and irrelevant.

It's simple: she murdered him. That's the bottom line.

They need to deal with that. Mssr. Jean is not at fault here.

I certainly hope she has altered her story to claim the shooting was justified, since she saw a baggie of pot on the table.

She'll get probation, and be back on duty in a few weeks.

Other than the marijuana, isn't that exactly what you'd expect to find at the crime scene?

The marijuana could have been hers, or his. What difference would it make?

She's pretty much already confessed to the manslaughter charges.

She shot him as soon as the door was open. If she had looked around, she would have seen it wasn't her apartment.
