Paul Manafort
three of those months until he resigned. Moreover, his roles in the campaign, particularly Convention Manager, were crucial, and arguably prevented a derailing of
Trumps nomination through a floor fight at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland.

In fact, I can actually see Trump taking such a position.

(14,976 posts)Trump wanted Christie. Manafort lied to Trump about an airplane malfunction to buy time to engineer a meeting between Trump and Pence. Trump only agreed to the meeting b/c he thought he couldn't go home yet -- he had never met Pence before and didn't want to.

(7,715 posts)Two very key things happened under Manafort's watch:
1) Change in the RNC's platform on Ukraine during the convention in July 2016
Throughout the campaign, Trump has been dismissive of calls for supporting the Ukraine government as it fights an ongoing Russian-led intervention. Trumps campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, worked as a lobbyist for the Russian-backed former Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych for more than a decade.
Still, Republican delegates at last weeks national security committee platform meeting in Cleveland were surprised when the Trump campaign orchestrated a set of events to make sure that the GOP would not pledge to give Ukraine the weapons it has been asking for from the United States.

2) The selection of Mike Pence
Both are probably being looked at extremely closely by the Special Counsel.

(7,715 posts)these buffoons are such transparent and bald-faced liars.
By contrast, remember that former Attorney General John Mitchell was Nixon's campaign chair during the 1972 presidential election. Mitchell was clearly involved in authorizing the actions of the Watergate burglars and Nixon knew about this almost immediately after the break-in on June 16-17. Mitchell resigned as campaign chair 13 days later, claiming publicly he wanted to spend more time with his wife Martha Mitchell.
What's past is prologue....however, Nixon, Mitchell, and all the President's Men back then were exponentially smarter than these thugs now in the White House.
