Designing Women' Creator Goes Public With Les Moonves War

'Designing Women' Creator Goes Public With Les Moonves War: Not All Harassment Is Sexual (Guest Column)

Linda Bloodworth Thomason, one of CBS' biggest hitmakers, reveals the disgraced mogul kept her shows off the air for seven years: "People asked me for years, 'What happened to you?' Les Moonves happened to me."

This is not the article you might be expecting about Les Moonves. It’s not going to be wise or inspiring. It’s going to be petty and punishing. In spite of my proper Southern mother’s admonition to always be gracious, I am all out of grace when it comes to Mr. Moonves. In fact, like a lot of women in Hollywood, I am happy to dance on his professional grave. And not just any dance — this will be the Macarena, the rumba, the cha-cha and the Moonwalk. You get the idea.

I was never sexually harassed or attacked by Les Moonves. My encounters were much more subtle, engendering a different kind of destruction. In 1992, I was given the largest writing and producing contract in the history of CBS. It was for $50 million, involving five new series with hefty penalties for each pilot not picked up.

Designing Women was my flagship CBS show, and Evening Shade had just been lauded as the best new comedy of the season. CBS chairman Howard Stringer and president Jeff Sagansky attended many of the Designing Women tapings, reveling in the show, quoting the lines and giving us carte blanche to tackle any subject, including sexual harassment, domestic violence and pornography. They even greenlighted an entire episode satirizing Clarence Thomas’ Supreme Court nomination. It was, to say the least, exhilarating. Little did I know that it would soon all be over.

Pretty sure the fact that Linda and her husband were high profile Democrats and friends of Bill Clinton had nothing to do with Moonves putting her on the sideline. I am sure you will remember that in 1992 Linda produced "Man From Hope" for the Democratic Convention.

when the GOP is down, we need to put the foot on their throat and STEP! Les Moonves could have realized that all those women mentioned in the article BUTTERED HIS BREAD, so that even if he disliked them, he could have simply sat back as they literally dumped money on his desk, but no, it is not about the money,it is about POWER. Raw, animal power that indeed may well be self destructive, but is still addicting.

If Money and power were all he cared about, hell, why not let the author of this just go ahead and make you yet ANOTHER hit series, like the sort your competition would KILL for. No Les, you had to run your office into a cheap rape porn frat house. I do nto care of Joyce Chen, your wife, goes on TV and tell us how you are a nice guy, we will step on your neck, and make sure that everyone who passes you by has to look at you and say "eww, I do not wanna be HIM."

STEP ON THE NECK!

It is why it is not time to ask how these men can rehabilitate themselves, like the fans of Louis CK did when the comedian forced his on-stage presence on an unsuspecting audience not too long ago and women reacted negatively. Sorry, but the priority shouldn't be on these men, but on the incredible art we are missing because of what they have done and are doing to their victims. What wonderful comedic routines have we missed because of Louis CK? What wonderful TV series because of Les Moonves? What wonderful film performances because of Harvey Weinstein? The list goes on, and on, and on, and on.

Only when all their victims are been given back the opportunities missed because of mental trauma, blackballing, and hurt, can we even just start to think about the perpetrators. Oh, is that impossible, you say? Well, then, I guess these scum should never get the chance to regain their former lives and positions.
