My Turn....Finished reading "Fear"

Had a hard time putting it down.

When it comes to Economics, Trump believes in "theories" that are the equivalent of "flat earthers". Economics is a science, and like science, you have to evolve your theories, views, etc. based on data. He and Navarro don't accept that, they are first and foremost, ideologists.

Him, Navarro and Cohn were debating on a tariff's on China when Cohn pointed out that China manufactures most of the worlds penicillin and could retaliate by with holding it. Trump and Navarro were surprised by this. Navarro quips that they will then buy it from someone else. Cohn responds and says they could buy it from Germany who will buy it from China with a mark up to the USA. So the Trade Deficit goes down with China and shoots up with Germany. Navarro says they will buy it from someone else and Cohn replies then the same thing happens. They refuse to accept facts. In the book, the usual answer to facts by Trump and to a lesser extent Navarro "Bullshit". They are incapable of evolving their views based on the evidence.

What was really telling. When Mueller tells Dowd he wants to interview Trump, to find out what his "intent" was in firing Comey. Dowd exclaims that he has that info based on official documents released by Rosenstein. But Mueller persists. Dowd informs Trump not to do an interview with Mueller, his best bet is to shut up, ignore him and continue to do his job.

Later, Trump insists he wants to sit for an questioning by Mueller. Eventually Dowd resigns citing that he can't represent a client who doesn't take his advice. In my view, that was just a convenient way to get out of the way when the shit hits the fan. Dowd has been around the block, he's says Mueller was trying to put Trump into a perjury trap...I think that's just sour grapes. And Dowd is right, Mueller does have the official documents that Trump can stand behind revealing his intent. Which means, Mueller probably has the goods on Trump's actual intent...to stop the Russia investigation. And yes, Mueller was trying to spring a perjury trap. Because "It was the Presidents intention to stop the Russia investigation and lie about" is worse than "It was the Presidents intention to stop the Russia investigation".

Both are bad, one just seals the deal better.

1. It's not a trap if it's not a surprise. Bill Clinton was surprised

by questions under oath about what he did with his penis. Now that was a perjury trap.

I liked “Fear”. It seemed even more credible than the Wolff book.

Bob Woodward is the gold standard of investigative reporting. It doesn't mean he's always right, and I often disagree with him. But damn, the man is good at getting people to talk to get at the big picture.

I'm in the middle of "Fear." It's clear why Woodward picked that title.

campaign discussions I find too literal (and even question the accuracy) since Woodward
wasn't there and I doubt the veracity of the testimony that would have been given to him.

Also read Hillary was up 9 points in Pennsylvania and 7 points in N. Carolina in 5 pm exit polls.
How the hell could she have ended up losing them??

3. Perjury traps only work if you, the person being questioned, lie when being questioned

The prosecutor will hang you on your own petard. The prosecutor won’t be asking trick questions that you could interpret as multiple choice crazy questioning. You either tell the truth and avoid being exposed as a liar or you lie. The trap part is the one you lay for yourself by lying.

the person responsible for creating the (metaphorical) bomb would be sent into the air (hoist) by being blown up(ward) by his own bomb.

to mean by a person’s own actions which is the way I used it. Metaphorically someone lying can have their own words be the bomb that they create themselves that blows up their lie.

10. Truthful people only have to remember one story. Easy to remain on track with reality.

Liars have two stories to juggle: reality and their lie.

Compulsive liars have several lies to try to keep straight, so they lose track of the truth.

Trump has so many he has lost track of reality.

...Trump has sound and sane people around him. They are the ones who are trying to save his presidency and prevent him from doing something crazy. But most of the time he refuses to listen to them, in preference to listening to others "crazy".

And in the end, its the sane and sound who decide to leave "crazy town".

Some other things that caught my eye, Trump is ADD. He can easily be distracted and all you have to do in stopping him on doing something stupid, just remove the "subject" from view.

And yes, he's a "fucking liar". When Priebus submitted his resignation and they agreed to wait a few days before announcing it, then as Priebus just got off the plane from talking to Trump, his phone alerts him to a tweet by Trump....announcing his departure.

And another scary part, once Trump says or commits to something, even if it's wrong, he thinks its weakness to admit you were in error. His tactic is deny, lie, deny, lie and deny and lie some more.
