"'Presidential Alert': FEMA to test emergency alert system next week"
https://www.cnn.com/2018/09/15/politics/fema-presidential-alert-trump-emergency-test/index.html
It's not a political message, but an emergency test message sent from President Donald Trump as part of the Federal Emergency Management Agency's system to warn the public in cases of national emergencies.
A majority of cell phone users will receive an alert on Thursday, September 20, with the header "Presidential Alert" and the message, "THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed."

(42,703 posts)But I don't think that every law that gives the president authority to do something should be repealed because the American public has shown themselves capable of electing a dangerous idiot as president.

(42,703 posts)Not sure how that is relevant to the issue of whether we're supposed to repeal all laws that give the president authority (which seems to be the implicit position of those objecting to the enactment of the mobile alerts law).

(205,405 posts)We didn't know who the guest was going to be until we got there, my impression was that Jon asked a friend to step in at the last minute. I was kinda disappointed, was hoping for a political guest, but Trump is making everyone political now!

(17,441 posts)These will not be a text message you can respond to. They will be like the NOAA and Amber Alerts that some phones already receive.

(10,885 posts)in case they hadn't heard of the test. Granted, it'll probably be all over the newscasts in the next few days, but it is possible for someone to miss the info and be startled when the alert comes in, especially those who have tuned out of the news for a while.
I'll have to remember to have my phone turned off at the time as I'll be driving in my car and the alert will come over my radio, probably scaring the c*** out of me!
You are probably already familiar with these types of cell phone alerts they are the loud noise that go off on your phone when there is an event like a flash flood warning or an Amber Alert. The new Presidential Alerts will function in the same way.
Especially tell your kids so they aren't confused!
