An inmate at a minimum-security prison in Maine who was serving a 45-year sentence for the beating death of his disabled neighbor has escaped, officials said.
Arnold Nash, 65, escaped from Mountain View Correctional Facility in Charleston around 8.20pm on Thursday. Authorities believe he is still in the local area.
Nash was serving a lengthy prison sentence for the 1991 robbery and murder of his neighbor Wilfred Gibeault, a 58-year-old disabled Korean War veteran.
Department of Corrections Commissioner Joseph Fitzpatrick said Nash was last seen wearing blue jeans, a white t-shirt and a light blue shirt, according to the Bangor Daily News.
*Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland told the Portland Press Herald that Nash is dangerous.
*'He's a career criminal and residents in the Greater Charleston area need to be aware, be vigilant and take extra precautions,' he said.
*Fitzpatrick warned residents not to approach Nash. Officials said there were no confirmed sightings of the convicted murderer as of Friday evening.
According to a press release on Friday morning, Nash was scheduled to be released in December, 18 years before the end of his original sentence. It did not say why he was going to be released so early...
