Biden: Obama and I Agreed to Stay Silent in Trump's 1st Year, But I Couldn't After Charlottesville

Former Vice President Joe Biden spoke at the Human Rights Campaign National Dinner last night and the subject of President Donald Trump came up a few times.

Dr. Jill Biden spoke first and, without mentioning Trump by name, recalled a story from when she was young and said, “I hate bullies.”

When the former veep spoke, he took a moment to address him and Barack Obama––now on the campaign trail for Democrats––not being more vocal in the first year of Trump’s presidency:

“Barack and I agreed to remain silent for a while to give this administration a chance to get up and running the first year. God forgive me.”

After the audience applauded, he added, “But I could not remain silent after Charlottesville… This is about basic decency.”

“We are in a fight for America’s soul!” Biden said. “And we have leaders who at the time when that occurred, when these guys were accompanied by white supremacists and [the] Ku Klux Klan and those that objected making a comparison saying there are good people in both groups. What has become of us? Our children are listening.”

You can watch part of his remarks above, via CNN.

so why wait a year to start telling the truth? When dealing with fascists, taking the high road never, ever works.

Unusual circumstances calls for unusual actions. That should have included the voices of Obama and IMO also Hillary, starting at least a few months in. Remind Americans just what a leader looks like, what they had and could have had. So what if Fox News criticized them? They do anyways.

For Hillary, silence sometimes is taken as guilt. I'm sure she was physically and emotionally devastated on election night, but the country needed her and still does to stand up not only for the country but for herself and her legacy. If not, it will be written by Fox News. I'd have liked to have her send out a tweet or statement after every major policy move made by Trump and the GOP saying how she would have done it differently, and for what logical reasons. And say it with an authoritative voice, non apologetically, like a REAL leader. It would also be entertaining to watch the Trump twitter meltdown whenever they did.

rebellion was able to come to fruition.

OTOH, when one saw the real damage Trump was doing, one should speak out and not worry about being nice or polite.
