(38,958 posts)the government alerts on my phone for Thursday. I did disable the Amber Alerts and that seems to have stopped them coming in at all odd hours.

(6,831 posts)It's MY phone, I bought it with MY money and I pay my monthly bill with MY money. Why should I have to be forced to accept texts that I do not want ?
Especially from a man who has less than passing familiarity with the truth.
I live in a coastal place, with high winds, Tsunamis, earthquakes and the occasional volcanic eruption. We get radio, telly and text reports for our safety. These are the ONLY texts that should be mandatory.

If not, I suspect apple and android are gonna get an earfull.
And if THAT doesn't work, I throw this bitch away and cancel my plan. A few billion in lost cell plan revenues next month and the phone companies will start suing his ass.

(5,591 posts)As wed hoped!
On Thursday at 2:18 p.m. FEMA will test the alert to all cell phones:

Damn. Looks like we have no choice! But just turn the phones off I guess. In normal times this would be very welcomed. But for awhile anyway, these are not normal times. Grr.

(37,648 posts)And for that, you have the pleasure of paying for each text.
I hope they don't have my cell ph #. It's not a smart phone, and I've had it a long time. It also has a different area code than I live in. So I'm hoping.

(2,275 posts)I'm worried about the 60% of the country that votes wherever the wind blows, who avoid serious news, watches sports if they have any extra time at all, has not formulated a political analysis, etc.
Hence Trump's "emergency" alert the night before the election:
"THIS IS A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENTIAL ALERT SYSTEM:
WE ARE UNDER ATTACK FROM DEEP STATE OPERATORS ACROSS ALL 50 STATES. REPEAT: WE ARE UNDER ATTACK.
ALL U.S. CITIZENS ARE ADVISED TO VOTE FOR THE REPUBLICAN PARTY TOMORROW TO ADDRESS A FAULT IN THE ELECTORAL SYSTEM"
etc., etc.
