Why Republicans cannot make the economy an issue in this election?

If we had been coming out of a crash, like the one in 2009, and the unemployment numbers and growth rate were doing as well as they are now, it would be a big advantage for them.

However, we were not coming out of a deep recession and the economy was not in terrible shape when they took power last year. Most folks see little difference in the way they were living under Obama and under Trump, economic-wise. They know that most of the taxcuts went to the top 1% and that Republicans increased the deficit by hundreds of billions of dollars to give it to the very top. It's not an issue they can easily sell.

So, it is not possible for them to say look how much better you are doing now than how you were doing under Obama. In my opinion, that is why the "booming" economy is not an issue.

Everyone knows that. The cult followers are self-loathing racists who care only about their "freedom" to express their racism. Any other rationalization for their cult is ad hoc window dressing.

Facts are useless to them.

Secretly, everyone knows - even the money grubbers on Wall Street - that Don is going to blow the economy up. If his latest tariffs on China are enacted, they could very well retaliate by not buying any more of our debt. Boom.

workers are expecting decent pay increases and are as satisfied as they have been in years. We know Obama -- under severe criticism -- is responsible for that. But trump will take credit for it, and a lot of voters will believe/accept it. That's my major concern going into November.

Newt Gingrich taught them to day absolutely anything that pushes their agenda du jour. Of course they'll say it.

how much they'd improved in the 8 years of President Obama. The Republicans are trying to convince us that Dotard hit a triple when, in fact, he started on third base.
