Conway on Kavanaugh accuser: This woman should not be insulted and she should not be ignored
By Emily Birnbaum - 09/17/18 08:20 AM EDT
White House counselor Kellyanne Conway on Monday said the woman accusing Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault "should not be insulted and she should not be ignored."
Conway on Fox News's "Fox & Friends" said members of the Senate Judiciary Committee are willing to hear testimony from Christine Blasey Ford, the California psychologist who went public with her accusations against Kavanaugh on Sunday.

"This woman should not be insulted and she should not be ignored," Conway said. "I think the Senate is headed to a reasonable approach."
Conway said she has spoken to several senators, including Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), who support bringing Ford before the committee to provide sworn testimony.
"This woman will be heard," Conway said, noting she has spoken to the president.
Ford's attorney on Monday said that her client is willing to testify before the committee.

(22,913 posts)I have to assume that even she gets that the optics of ridiculing a credible victim of assault will play poorly for Republican efforts to minimize a blue wave election this November, women have been breaking hard against the G.O.P. hard already.
While Republicans desperately want to deliver another Supreme Court seat for their base before the midterms, they have to weigh at what cost. They no doubt will be weighing their options daily now watching how the public reacts. If they can't confirm a judge before the midterms they will do so during the lame duck session regardless of the outcome of the election. Even if they lose the Senate they retain control until January. They have no shame. Somewhere out there they would dredge up a very conservative SC nominee with a relatively clean record to push through if Kavanaugh goes down.
