Rachel Maddow Just Became The Most Watched Show On All Of Television
Rachel Maddow had her biggest viewership week ever last week, and on Friday, she was the most-watched program on all of television.
Here are the ratings for all of TV on Friday:
Rachel Maddow and MSNBC Build Momentum Ahead Of The Midterms
Rachel Maddow was not only the number one show on cable TV. She was the top show on all of television. 3.43 million viewers is an eye-popping number. There are shows on broadcast television every night of the week that dont get those kinds of numbers. For most of her decade on the air, Rachel Maddow was behind Fox News. It took Donald Trump and the Russia scandal for viewers to appreciate Maddows credibility, reporting style, and analysis.
If one believes that there is a relationship between cable news ratings and voter enthusiasm, Democrats are in great shape heading into the midterm. However, much more research is needed before any relationship can be established between the two variables, but just only a completely unscientific eyeball test alone, there does appear to be a connection between the enthusiasm of cable news viewers on the left or right and voter turnout.
Maddow and MSNBC are on the cusp of something special, and ironically, it may never happened without Trump getting into the White House.

That's a bullshit argument and it cost Hillary the Presidency.

(81,304 posts)She started on MSNBC, incredibly enough, on Little Tucker Carlsons daytime show. She was a semi-regular guest. And she did well. Well enough that Olbermann brought her in as a semi-regular guest. And the rest is broadcast history.
I still feel like watching her show is like attending a master class - in civics, history, politics, culture, whatever. She always backs into the lead. And while doing so, gives you all kinds of context and historical background perspective. You get a WIDE view at first, that she steadily narrows down and focuses on, sharper and sharper, until you get to the punchline.
I always learn something new or more or more deeply after watching her show. Sometimes I even take notes.
AND she does it with NO glamour, no skimpy tops or clothing, no heavy makeup, no come hither hair styling. Just brains. And a pretty cool sense of humor and whimsy thrown in for good measure.

(32,641 posts)I don't believe they do, and a lot of people DVR her show to watch later. I know I do for both Rachel and Lawrence every night. So her numbers would be quite a bit higher if they added for recording to watch later - maybe even double!

Rachel has been kicking Hannity's ass for some time now. Maybe Murdoch should rethink his programming and get on board.

(101,321 posts)That's only about 1.1% of the population. To put it in perspective, the most watched programme in the UK at 9pm on Friday night was "Celebrity Masterchef" - which had 3.99 million viewers. The UK has a population one fifth of the USA, but had a program watched by more than any US one.

(8,515 posts)I liked her and thought she was the best with facts but I thought the fact that she could never get Right Wing Bump supporters.. to appear on her show hurt her.. Of course it was because they feared the hell out of her.. Seems to me I was completely wrong based on the numbers .. God Bless Ya Rachael!

(54,403 posts)She is also so very NOT full of herself, in great contrast to the Fox gang. The one time I met her, it was at a tiny provincial airport at the tip of Cape Cod, MA. She stuck out her hand and said, "hi, I'm Rachel," as if I couldn't possibly know who she was if she hadn't told me.
I said, "yes, I know," and we both laughed.

(37,648 posts)I'm a cord cutter, so I listen to it for free via Podcast, and watch it later on PlutoTV ( a free channel on my Roku...it runs the MSNBC primetime lineup after they initially run).
So they're not even counting everyone who listens and watches.
