and how CERTAIN it is that worse crap will come out about Kavanaugh in the next 2 months, it really says a lot about how much the GOPers want a nakedly partisan activist conservative majority SCOTUS. McConnell may very well piss away his Majority leadership position just because of this nominee. Pushing Kavanaugh through despite his garbage could be the difference in close races like ND, FL, NV, AZ, even TX.
And in my mind it should wake Dems up to the reality that the rules and norms about an independent Judiciary/SCOTUS are today, and have long been, a lie. Those norms are an illusion. They are, for Democrats, self-forged shackles. Because GOPers are NOT thusly constrained. They throw rules, norms, and even laws out the window in the pursuit of whatever power they need for enact their will to pursue their goals.
The only way forward is to fight fire with fire. Maybe you can impeach and remove Gorsuch and Kavanaugh, but I doubt it because it takes 67 Senators. But what you can do (post 2020 anyhow, with a simple majority of both houses of Congress and a POTUS) is "pack" the court. Add 4 seats so that there is one Justice per Circuit (the 11 numbered regional ones plus DC plus Federal), and nominate and confirm four 30/40-something women of color and let all the GOPers blow out a cerebral artery.
