Desert News: Orrin Hatch said he believes Brett Kavanaugh, calls accuser 'mistaken'

Hatch said in an interview with CNN that Kavanaugh told him during a telephone conversation
Monday that "he didn't do that and he wasn't at the party" where the incident is alleged to have
occurred, so "clearly somebody's mixed up."

The senator said he thinks Kavanaugh's accuser is "mistaken. She's mistaken something that I
don't know. I don't know her." Asked if he believes Kavanaugh, Hatch responded, "I sure do."

The committee is expected to hear from Kavanaugh and Ford on Monday.

Hatch spokesman Matt Whitlock said during the senator's call with Kavanaugh, the nominee "continued to categorically deny the allegations" and "also suggested to Sen. Hatch that Dr. Ford may have mistaken someone else for him."

testify, without any FBI investigation? Pure bias and willful ignorance since he has learned nothing from his hateful treatment of Prof. Hill.

Looking forward to your making a total ass out of yourself at the hearings on Monday. It appears you won't be able to help yourself do otherwise.

Long-delayed revenge for Anita Hill. Gotta love it.

I'm beginning to think Orrin knows how he feels...like maybe he's been there/done that.

Just thinkin'.

Torpedoing Kavanaugh too quickly would leave too much time on the clock.

RBG was confirmed in something like 40 days, these things can be fast. They have time for several tries if their sock puppets get thrown down too quickly. We won't get the Senate back until January.

I worry that knocking down Kavanaugh for sexual assault could open the door to an even more conservative woman being put forward as an answer - Barrett or Grant.

We need this to be a months long brawl over Kavanaugh.

Anyone the Pubs put up will be nominally qualified and lies their ass off or give non answers during their Senate interviews. They'll say the exact empty platitudes needed to give vulnerable R's an excuse to vote for them.

To get Pubs to break ranks, we need to be able to drop surprises on them like this. If we fail to pull the rabbit out if the hat (our should it be skeleton out if the closet?) They get the SCOTUS for a generation. Pubs tend to be pretty dirty (even by modern political standards), but we can't count on finding the dirt in time.

Also finding last minute scandals time after time just feeds the right wing narrative that it is all made up.

10. When you have a great nominee, confirmation comes fast

When you have a flawed (or worse) nominee, confirmation comes half-fast. But "Justice" Thomas is on the bench for life. The good news is that he's been looking about as healthy as Antonin Scalia lately.
