If Kkkavanaugh is withdrawn/denied confirmation how long until the next appointee?

This falls under counting chickens before they're hatched, but if Ford's testimony damages Kavanaugh enough that he loses Collins/Murkowski/Flake support and he is not confirmed, it would probably be until after the midterms until a replacement appointee could come to the floor for a vote, right?

What would be great about that is that the red state Senators facing re-election would no longer have any pressure to confirm because they'd either be lame ducks or re-elected to new 6 year terms. And, if Mueller is holding his haymakers until after the mid-terms so that he isn't accused of trying to influence the election, Trump could be in a weakened state with his new appointment.

Then, it's not far from Christmas break and if it could somehow remain unfilled until January, if there is a Democratic Senate, it could be Merrick Garland payback time.

Am I being way too optimistic to even think this?

She recently said that the Democrats could keep retired Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy's seat vacant for two years if need be should the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to replace him fail and should Democrats take the Senate in November.

I support the efforts to deny Kavanaugh and am sympathetic on Garland too...but at some point we have to end the extremes that the SCOTUS is reaching...it has been out of kilter since Bush v. Gore and it getting worse every time ...

Ending lifetime appointments in favor of 10 year seats with potential for ONE renomination and reconfirmation would be a start...maybe?

would drop off, all indications are that the republicans will not allow it to happen, but will push it through after they run their Kangaroo hearing of only the two principals, the victim and the perpetrator. No other witnesses will be allowed

that another Kavanaugh accuser comes forward or some final shoe drops that prevents him from getting 50 votes and if that did happen and there were blue wave midterms that swung the Senate, things could get pretty interesting.

and his nominees. Not to mention, Gorsuch's sitting on a stolen seat and should be replaced with Merrick Garland.
