Jim Gensheimer, who has been friends w/ Christine Blasey Ford for 8 yrs, just gave me this statement

-- he says she has previously told him about "her need to have more than one exit door in her bedroom to prevent her from being trapped."

the Republicans want very badly NOT to have one.

Also, there is another letter signed by approximately 200 women who knew Dr. Ford in school, who said they had personally experienced or heard stories of other girls and women's experiencing incidents similar to what Dr. Ford described. So much for the 65 non-witnesses who signed the letter supporting Kavanaugh...

Their recent statement makes a fool of the hasty Republicans on the committee. The old guard is still in place and they're now up against modern, savvy women of the law.

But Ford's having to move out of her home brings the tears. The privilege of misogyny is a cruel hammer.

She has lived her whole life being fearful. She is afraid of strangers coming on her property. Very untrusting of men in general. Thinks all men (except her son, my husband) are sex fiends or perverted. The trauma she suffered has stayed with her all these years. She never had benefit of counseling and probably never even thinks about the source of her fear and paranoia. It happened in the 1940s.

She is a nice lady who didn’t deserve what she has endured. She was on a group outing ... on a hayride. A night supposed to be fun. But it traumatized her forever.

I don’t doubt one bit that Dr. Ford has had long lasting trauma associated with her encounter with Kavanaugh.

It was a long drive and we had lots of time to talk. We started talking about men, dating, etc. She had had three failed marriages and had pretty much sworn off of trying again. I had been married a long time to the same person I married at age 20

Anyhow, one thing led to another and we were talking about dating and experiences we’d both had. Turned out that both of us had nearly been raped by men we knew from work. Very close calls . Lots of physical coercion, fighting the person off, etc. It was quite traumatic and frightening to have someone turn on us in such a violent way. In my case, it was a man older than me — I was 18, had just graduated high school and attended a local jr. College and worked at night . The man was nearly 10 years older than me. After work one night, a bunch of us went out to a local tavern. We stayed for a while but I had class the next day so needed to go home when the guy offered to drive me back to work where my car was parked. So I said okay. He did not go back to work and drove many miles away to a secluded place and then began trying to attack me. The whole time I was asking where we were going and didn’t get frightened until he stopped the car in the middle of nowhere. Then it dawned on me what was on his mind.

I am lucky. He finally stopped after I fought him and probably left scratches on him. He was very angry and drove me back to my car. The next day he kind of ignored me but acted as if nothing had happened. I was so naive that I did not know that what he did was a crime. I never told anyone about it until many years later and at that time I realized I was a victim of his crime . I wondered how many other women had been assaulted by him.

I think there are millions of us who have stories that are similar to mine. My co-worker’s story was along the same lines as mine. This happened to me in 1967, but I have never forgotten who did it and how close I came to being a victim of rape by someone I knew. There are some details I do not remember like the name of the tavern or the exact date. Some of that has dimmed with the passage of time but the basic facts are still etched in my memory and probably always will be.

Who were victimized by someone we knew. I know for myself, at the time, I was embarrassed and angry but never thought it was a crime. After all, it was a guy I knew and worked with. So how could it be a crime? I never even once thought of it as a criminal act until many years later when I had a better understanding of assault of any kind. (Sexual or physical, such as hitting.)

I guess we need to stand up and be counted to say it DID happen and NO! We are not mixed up. It just burns me up every time they run the clip on TV with Hatch saying she is “mixed up”. How dare he?! It is way past time for people in authority to stop patting us on the head and telling us to sit down and shut up.

I do not expect anything to be done at this late date to the creep who assaulted me. I have long since moved on even if I never ever forget what he did to me and took from me. But we have got to start saying loud and clear that ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! Teach your children that it is not okay to force someone to have sex with you no matter how raging your hormones are or how drunk you are. Teach them that it is a crime. But most of all teach them it is wrong and against all human values of respect and regard for others. Too bad that Donald tRump never got that lesson. This is a teachable moment but he is not the one to teach us a gd thing.

The idea that the GOP will rush this past a legitimate investigation is all the additional proof ANYONE should need. There is no rush beyond their own paranoia regarding the House and Senate after mid-terms. This is not even a 'good' Supreme Court nominee...he is below average despite anything the shit gibbon says.

Dr. Ford came forward under duress, not out of 'opportunity' as the scum insinuate. Never forget, in addition to Kavanaugh, this mess too has been forced on her. I am ashamed of my country and will be forevermore if this injustice is furthered by the GOP now...

Misogyny and other culturally-embedded biases have existed forever but we do see many improvements with education. Perhaps that's why the repuglicons want to dismantle education for all and a liberal education - especially for themselves.
