If I did one mistake with Comey, I should have fired him before I got here. I should have fired him the day I won the primaries, Trump said. I should have fired him right after the convention, say I dont want that guy. Or at least fired him the first day on the job... I would have been better off firing him or putting out a statement that I dont want him there when I get there. - Dangerously Delusional Nutjob-in-Chief.https://www.thedailybeast.com/trump-i-should-have-fired-comey-the-day-i-won-the-primaries

(115,740 posts)Is this for real? Spanky thinks he should have fired Comey the day he won the primaries? That is, months before he took office? While Obama was still president? How was that supposed to work?
I'm confused.
Or maybe somebody else is.

What if? Of course, he knew. Please, please, please don't fall into that normalization trap that Republicans and the teevee news started pushing the moment Russian influence was reported. He knew. Doesn't mean he's not stupid as fuck.

(4,573 posts)Because I forgot to add exactly what you said: I am firmly convinced that he the Russians were going to fix things for him. Even if some consider it "wild conspiracy theory territory."

(14,565 posts)No doubt he said it but the administration might scramble to get rid of it. There is a video on one of those links with the host describing what Trump said, but not the actual video itself.
This would be awesome in video form. You really wouldn't need anything else to define his caliber.

(22,143 posts)are one big reason why our schools in America continue to do badly, in pushing up the grade point averages of all students. They're the ones who expect that they should land a big paying job w/o doing any hard work going to school or studying. They're the football captains and prom queens who are still stuck in their fantasy world of high school, and never grow up. They're the ones who gripe about those who sacrificed a lot, not going out, working part time to pay for school, bring their brown bag lunches, etc. They called us 'nerds'. So be it.
So, while a lot of us were working our tails off, the rest of them (the rump crowd) were buying 6 packs of beer, boozing it up, snorting, being meth heads, and the like. And unfortunately in the process, killing themselves.
Hypocrites. They think that they can make fun of others for their accomplishments when their own accomplishments pale significantly. No wonder they are attracted to rump, who pretty well fit into their group, of no accomplishments, and have a big mouth. They simply are jealous of us.
Maybe they'll wake up someday from their hangover or worst, and realize the truth, that they are the only ones who can change their lives for the better, and quit blaming everyone else.

(14,492 posts)The group you discussed certainly is one of many the Repugs have captivated, and it was an easy one.
I think far more crucial to understanding the ones that should know better is understanding how the GOP's brainwashing machine has used human emotions to appeal to so many. We know that beginning back in the 60s and 70s, they built a secret array of think tanks to win over more of our electorate by any means.
While traveling around the US in field service work for many years, I noticed a lot of racism and resentment in high school and college educated folks that surprised me. These were mostly maintenance, construction and management folks. I'm still not sure how they got brainwashed, but I suspect right-wing talk radio started it all, then Faux News came along to give them another dose of that shit in the evenings after work. And, there was nothing on our side to counter-balancing against it.
No matter how smart or how well educated we are, we're all vulnerable to fear. The GOP carefully selected certain segments of our population and figured out how to induce some form of fear into each: people with a little wealth, people with guns, religious people and of course, white people. The ignorant folks were the easiest of all.
It's obvious they care only for achieving control, wealth and power for a select few and will use any means to achieve it. With the enormous amount of wealth that's behind them, it's hard for me to be optimistic.

(22,143 posts)gullible as Pavlow ringing a bell, and they start drooling and that people know when they are being 'brainwashed'. With the commercialization of America, we've been bombarded w/ literally millions of ads over our lives and thus aren't so vulnerable to one thing or another since if we get one impression one second, it's gone in another second, and so forth.
I really do feel that people aren't so easily driven by fear mongering, and that we are more intelligent than this, and know when we are being 'played'. However, two groups come to mind quickly that I feel are somewhat gullible (and I apologize to any of you reading this post if you physically fit into either of these two categories): (1) old men and women (2) younger, inexperienced kids.
This is strictly my observations and opinions, old men tend to be more set in their ways, and not changeable. They're the ones I find myself asking 'WTF?!' after I've talked to them occasionally. Older women are more patient I think (from raising families and just being patient w/ life), and tend to listen more than others before 'flying off the roof'.
Young kids are just simply starting out, and don't have enough life experiences to know whether they're being taken for a ride or not, and also eager to please, and very peer-driven. I find that w/ the ones that we deal w/, they are cordial and nice, but not as outspoken as we are, and thus, are amazed at our frankness in dealing w/ various people and things. The things that seem to be important to them are not the same things that are important to us (this is the same for everybody of course).
Perhaps I'm naïve in that thinking people are so easily driven by fear, or by being 'played', and I tend to believe that perhaps I'm a little bit naïve...I guess I gave too much credit to the human race at one time. Not so much now.
Take care Mr. KY_EnvironGuy!

(22,976 posts)His probably does imagine that he has the power to fire anybody from anything. This man is so disconnected from objective reality that he should be separated from the presidency immediately.
But Republicans kind of like what theyre getting out of their newfound love for a fascist regime. The entire crew is a mere whisker away from sporting swastika armbands. Theyre inflicting 45 on the entire country because of all the mindless deregulation and lifetime appellate judgeship appointments, all going on while everyones eyes are diverted and fixed on his latest tweet.
