(1,990 posts)But the FBI has to be able to prove someone is lying for it to be a crime. That is not possible here. Neither Kavanaugh nor Judge are in fear of being charged by the FBI. That's a complete joke.

Yeah, yeah, I know. That's not fair. But it's kind of like being a member of a jury when the judge says to ignore something that one side or the other said (at least that's what they do on TV).
Is lying to Congress a federal crime?
Who investigates?
Who does background checks on federal judge nominees and cabinet secretaries? I know the FBI used to do all background checks - they did mine some 30+ years ago - but I think it's been privatized. So who's responsible? And how far back do they go?
If the FBI is not the right agency to investigate the attempted rape, wouldn't it be a Maryland law enforcement agency? I guess I missed their public comment on the issue.
