I don't think what ills Trump can be chalked up to Alzheimer's or some other form of dementia....

....Rather, I think what we are seeing with him is one of the most severe cases of Narcissistic Personality Disorder in recent memory, bordering on the delusional.

Trump said in an interview that he should have fired Comey "before the primaries."

The way I see it, Trump has created a world around him that is so self-centered and self-absorbed that he and only he is of the utmost importance. And everything he says should be given the highest degree of attention and deference.

I'm not sure he literally thinks a nominee has the power to fire the FBI director......maybe he does, who knows, but I think he thinks his word and opinion is so powerful that anyone would have deferred to his will, or should have, even before he had the actual power to act.

And I get tired of people saying that he does. This is him, always has been. Sure, as he gets older, like most people, he will slip up occasionally. That's not the same thing. And I don't want him to get the 25th amendendment applied, because then they will use that to say he isn't liable for crimes he committed. The raygun defense will not work here.

He's a criminal and a liar, always has been. People are unsure what to make of someone who lies all the time and think it's dementia because they aren't familiar with personality disorders.

and he is just plain stupid, but his reaction to being told the more accurate death toll in Puerto Rico reminded me of many old men I know who fasten onto what they're told and then can't adapt when new information arrives. He was told only nine deaths (or whatever it was) by that ass-kissing governor of PR, and he believed it. He continues to believe it (because it fits his narrative that he did a great job), and he doesn't understand (because he is stupid and incurious) how the death toll could have risen so abruptly (in his mind--there have been stories for months about more deaths in PR). Therefore, it's all a plot by democrats to make him look bad.

Because, when it comes down to it, it is all about him.

And while I’m no expert on the disease, in my opinion, the president does not exhibit typical traits of the Alzheimers. When I personally re-entered therapy a week after the 2016 election, it was the opinion of my therapist that tRump has Malignant Narcissistic Personality Disorder. He is a mess.

She's always been an ass, having dementia didn't change her.

Trump is probably suffering from some sort of dementia, but he's also clearly both incompetent and a narcissist.

People under stress/duress tend to revert to who they are at their core. In Trump's case, he's a blithering idiot who thinks he's a genius.

My dad was diagnosed in the mid stage but prior to that I noticed on my trips home how he could recall an event from 40 years prior with crystal clarity and yet not recall what happened 20 minutes ago.

I agreed with the OP on how Trump just makes shit up and then tries to bend reality to his (and our) views.

Hair Furor has bullshitted his way through life but has never been this far over his head in any position.

He could very well be in the early stages yet as I stated earlier I'm not accustomed to seeing this kind of raging asshole up close and personal.

Wed Sep 19, 2018, 12:50 PM

He had early conduct disorder prompting his rich parents to try to straighten him out by enrolling him in military school. Money and privilege always gave him cover. As a psychopath he is not at the highly intelligent end of the spectrum, but closer to the other. If not for his privilege he would have likely spent his life in and out of detention centers and prisons.
Narcissism is often a characteristic of psychopathy, and as a disorder it can be co-morbid with psychopathy. A narcissist is not necessarily a sociopath or a psychopath.

I edited to fix the title

a Harvard PhD in Psychology had a similar diagnosis over 2 years ago, and one of the first anti-Trump Republicans (Trump insulted him on Twitter back in 2015, and maybe even before that.)

This is beyond narcissism. I used to think Trump was an 11-year-old, an undeveloped schoolyard bully. I was off by about 10 years. His needs are more primitive, an infantile hunger for approval and praise, a craving that can never be satisfied. He lives in a cocoon of solipsism where the world outside himself has value — indeed exists — only insofar as it sustains and inflates him.

My Dad was like that. Not quite as weird— well, yeah he was now that I think about it— and didn’t have the money, but was just this giant dick most of the time, BUT given to impulsive generosities. He could make friends, because people saw him as a curmudgeon type, a think it, say it type. A mans man. He worked hard though. I don’t think I’ve met anyone who worked harder. Thinking of my Dad with real power is a nightmare inducing

Dad stayed married to the same woman though, but had no respect for women whatsoever.

He died ungrieved for the most part

People with Personality Disorders can develop dementia on top of their disorder.

His constant repetition, and misstating the obvious, could be a symptom of a deteriorating mind.

Today....
"In an interview with Hill.TV on Tuesday, President Donald Trump said he should have fired former FBI director James Comey before getting to the White House.
“If I did one mistake with Comey, I should have fired him before I got here. I should have fired him the day I won the primaries,” Trump said. “I should have fired him right after the convention, say I don’t want that guy."

It's not like he was known as some great, benevolent guy in his younger days. I don't think anyone who thinks he's showing signs of dementia claim it's an explanation for why he's a jackass and a horrible president. I would never have supported him for president even when he was younger. I think you're right. He's a horrible human being who's showing signs of mental decline on top of it.

Trump is a Bull Shit Artist who has gotten away with it for so long he doesn't know how to react when people actually call him on it. He just keeps spinning Bullshit that gets more and more outlandish.

The irony here is that if Comey was fired when he stated, Trump would likely not ever have become President. I think we all agree that the Comey memo cut into Clinton's support enough to allow him to slip by.

I believe he is in the very early stages of dementia or alzheimers.

Even the most repulsive psychopaths of our time (Gacy, Bundy, etc) could fake empathy when it was in their interest. Trump was capable of this as well, but no more. He is down to the basest of instincts.

He's never once had to learn a new skill, read a book, etc., in his entire life.

Your brain forms new neural pathways when you learn and practice new skills. Neurons, like anything, also die off over time. When you've been a complete fathead for 72 years, the attrition is going to take its toll.
