Just saw this movie. Found it to be both depressing and motivational. Recommended viewing for all. Caution to some, Moore skewers some sacred cows in this movie.

Some leftists are just wired to shoot mainstream Democrats in the head and can't miss a chance at it. The Flint water crisis is laid at the feet of Rick Snyder, his lackeys and Jaime Dimon. Yes, he makes Obama look dickish but I thought he was trying to put across the betrayal felt by the people of Flint AFTER the film has gone into detail about the cover up of the test results re: lead contamination of their citizens.
His spotlight of up and comers IS NOT complimentary to the "Democratic Establishment" but it may be the only source of hope he puts forth. He highlights the young people who are trying to make changes in our system, most notably the Parkland students.
The big turnoff for some on this board will be he's sympathetic to Bernie Sanders.
p.s. he also does this montage of Thump and Ivanka which drew groans and repulsive laughter from the people around me in the theater.

(10,952 posts)with the creation of the Flint water crises, it is clear that the people of Flint felt betrayed. His visit to Flint appeared to provide shade for Snyder. He was in a position to provide real help to them and he didn't. Then allowing the military to use Flint for military exercises was appalling to say the least. I totally get why people didn't vote in 2016.

(10,173 posts)I have my criticisms of Obama but my criticisms aren't lies.
Suggesting that Obama was responsible for Flint or "did nothing" is a lie. The tragedy of flint was precipitated under Republican management of the state. It was a break down of civic institutions, a systemic failure that cannot be laid at the feet of one person.
Am I asking too much that people like Moore who make it their business to talk about politics, actually know how government works? Or actually, understand that Obama was filibustered to hell and back over 6 years of his presidency - over things like infrastructure investment and development?
Moore has had insightful things to say about mid-western politics which I've agreed with, but he doesn't realize that mid-western politics is no longer what it was in 1992. "Economic anxiety" is not a thing for Trump voters. We know too much now, We know exactly the undercurrents of 2016, it's not "economic anxiety" when Trump voters' median income was 72k.
Moore's poor judgment precedes him. He's a thought influencer, and his influence has helped produce worse outcomes - something he has yet to acknowledge. Instead of just saying.. "you know I was dead wrong about Al Gore" he doubled down: "Al Gore told me Nader didn't cost me the election". Yeah, I'm sure the false meme that Gore and Bush are the same which he helped push had no impact, none at all . Wanting Al Gore to run for Prez doesn't absolve him of his error of judgment. He did the same with Kerry and he was wrong about Romney winning. Also wrong when he claimed that Clinton was to the right of Obama ( He tried to make up for it with his documentary, but how does that even enter someone's mind??? Clinton addressed "environmental racism" and where was he???)
Pointing out his inconsistencies and his occasional lack of perspective is not protecting "sacred cows".
And a huge thank you, JHan.

Trump said (about health care) that he would do "Something terrific." People vote for what they want and Trump understood that.

He used his fame to help reopen it as a community theater run primarily by volunteers. You can see classic films on Wednesday for a quarter and it has regular showings dedicated to kids who have disabilities. I'm sure he has quietly poured loads of his own money into the place just like the max donation he gave to a woman candidate for the state house on whose campaign I help.
When a local car dealer cut off funding to planned parenthood over the recent abortion nonsense, Moore donated an amount equivalent to that lost. But he is the scum of the earth? Not so much. He walks the walk and doesn't talk about it.

George II
(67,782 posts)The films of Michael Moore have been faltering at the box office for several years now. This weekend, though, the lackluster performance of his latest truth-to-power opus, Fahrenheit 11/9, was notably dramatic, if not downright stark. The movie is a sequel, of sorts, to Fahrenheit 9/11, Moores scathing riff on the administration of George W. Bush. That movie, when it was released in 2004, made $119 million, becoming the highest-grossing documentary of all time. It was a special moment, of course. America was still grappling with the shock of 9/11, and Moores film became a lightning rod a catharsis for liberals (or some of them, anyway) and a symbol, for conservatives, of everything that was wrong with liberalism. But one thing, perhaps, that everyone could agree on is that in Fahrenheit 9/11, Michael Moore, for good or ill, had become instrumental in defining the national dialogue.
Fahrenheit 11/9, his scathing riff on the administration of Donald J. Trump, will be lucky to gross one-tenth of what Fahrenheit 9/11 did. Thats more than just a staggering comedown. It symbolizes a couple of things at once: how different the two eras are, but also how Michael Moores audience theres no other way to put it has gradually drifted away. It symbolizes that Moore is no longer defining the dialogue. A Trump-era conservative would probably say, Its about time! Michael Moore has lied so much that its all finally caught up with him. A Trump-era liberal would probably say, I still agree with him, but Ive seen enough Michael Moore movies. I know his message already.
