KS-03: Sharice Davids raised nearly $700,000 from small-dollar donors in August

Kansas Democrat Sharice Davids raised nearly $700,000 from small-dollar donors in August alone, according to monthly campaign finance reports form ActBlue, a fundraising firm that enables Democratic candidates, nonprofits and progressive groups to raise money online.

Davids is trying out oust four-term incumbent Republican Rep. Kevin Yoder in Kansas’ 3rd Congressional District.

Act Blue reported that the Davids campaign received $692,749 via ActBlue in August, the month she won a six-way Democratic primary contest to become Kansas’ first openly gay Native American congressional nominee. The historical nature of her candidacy has attracted national buzz.

The ActBlue filings were first tallied by ProPublica, which listed Davids’ campaign as one of 23 federal committees that raised more than half a million dollars through ActBlue in August

Davids likely has raised far more, however. The ActBlue figures only include donations that came the campaign through that firm, and doesn’t account for any funds the campaign raised so far in September.

Davids’ campaign confirmed the August total from ActBlue, but said she’s not ready to announce her fundraising haul the entire third quarter, which ends on Sept. 30.

“We’re proud to have such strong grassroots support powering our campaign, unlike Congressman Kevin Yoder who has taken millions of dollars from special interests and then voted over and over again to increase their profits at the expense of Kansas families,” Davids said in a statement.

Her campaign had previously reported raising $171,791 in the 2nd quarter of this year, which ended in June. She reported just $127,758 cash on hand as of July 18.

The committee to re-elect Kevin Yoder raised nearly $470,000 in the second quarter, bringing his cash on hand to about $1.8 million before the Aug. 7 primary.
