Everything Trump touches dies, as Rick Wilson so accurately put it.

There's a pattern. Trump nominates or hires someone who's not qualified for the job, either on account of incompetence, bad character or outright corruption. The extent of the person's unsuitability is eventually uncovered, either before or after they get the job. And they crash and burn - but Trump just keeps rolling along, spreading his poison everywhere.

Now it looks like more women Kavanaugh allegedly harassed are coming forward. It's not clear yet whether he'll withdraw or be withdrawn, but the GOPers are going to have a tough time with these additional claims. If he's confirmed notwithstanding the new claims and those (or even more) claims are verified after he takes his seat at the Supreme Court, the reputation of the Court itself, not just Kavanaugh, will be tainted for decades. If Kavanaugh hadn't been nominated at all - which was specifically because of his extreme views on the immunity of presidents from investigation and prosecution - he'd have continued his very good job on the Court of Appeals, none of this dirt ever would have come out, and he'd probably have lived happily ever after.

It reminds me a bit of what happened to Dr. Ronny Jackson. He had a good job as WH physician, but because Trump was so impressed by the doctor who was willing to lie about his health, he appointed him to a job for which he was completely unqualified, head of the VA. And Jackson foolishly accepted the offer (maybe he was angling for it all along with his fulsome statements about Trump's physical). And then the skeletons started falling out of his closet. If he'd been content to stay with his very good job as WH physician his history of handing out pills and drinking on the job never would have come out. But Trump suckered him into wanting something he wasn't qualified for.

Hubris: The character flaw of pride and ambition so great that the gods are offended and they fuck you up.

Trump attracts flawed people and seduces them into wanting more than they should have. When they inevitably crash and burn he just walks away from the wreckage.

Excellent post. Kavanaugh wouldn't be in this mess if he kept his ambition in check. IluvPitties Sep 2018 #1

continued with his low level, sleezy, gangster stuff and gotten away with it. But, narcisist that he is, he just couldn't help himself and now he's being looked at in a way that will not turn out well for him.
