trump is desperate. It is possible, [though very politically incorrect to dare say it], that given trump's history and ways of doing business, that he made an explicit deal with kavenaugh. Could be directly from trump to kavenaugh, or using a 'buffer' for deniability. The possible deal being trump picking kavenaugh as the Scotus nominee, in return for an explicit, enforceable promise from kavenaugh to protect trump, at any cost, at the scotus level. kavenaugh may have well been the ideal pick for such a deal. It may be much harder, after all that's happened in recent weeks, for trump to get similar protection from any other nominee.

Whole groups of them, that we know about; and likely some we haven’t heard of yet at all.
