They don’t live in the real world. They live in a world where Fox News is fair and balanced, where there are giant conspiracies in the media, in the deep state, in science.
They are unreachable. And they make up about 40percent of the voting public.

Once the approval reached 42.0 on in May, it remained between 41 and 42.6 for 3 months. The outlier was the recent drop all the way down to briefly 39.9.

The mistake, as always, is to interpret any downturn as signal that the bottom will fall out. Much more likely, the longer held range will restore. That's where we are now.

I'm convinced Trump's approval will steadily tick upward, that even if he doesn't change a thing in terms of what he says or how he acts more Americans will slowly become comfortable with it. I posted that at this time last year when he was polling at 35%. Incumbents receive incredible benefit of a doubt if the party has been in power only one term. Trump is every type of lowlife but as long as people are comfortable with their daily lives they begin to shrug and think maybe the guy in charge is not as bad as they thought. Outrage is difficult to sustain, especially if you aren't fully engaged.

Besides, this Kavanuagh stuff doesn't involve Trump directly. People are hearing bad things about a different Republican while Trump has been mostly silent.
