Aunt Flo Visits the Prison, But She Can't Wear a Tampon! [UPDATED: Brian Moran Backs Down]

UPDATE: Following an uproar, Virginia officials back down...at least for now.
*********************

Hot off the appalling reports on children being duct taped to chairs with bags over their heads in detention centers, and prisoners—including children—being kept in solitary confinement for months and sometimes years straight, the Virginia Department of Corrections, and Secretary of Public Safety Brian Moran are once again making headlines for their shameful and embarrassing disregard for human decency.

This time they’ve instituted a new policy for women who are VISITING the prison. Due to alleged (completely unsubstantiated by any data) concerns that visitors will smuggle contraband to the prisoners, women visiting may no longer wear tampons or menstrual cups. If they arrive wearing these, they will be subjected to strip search, body cavity search, or be denied visitation and have their visitation permissions reviewed.

Seems like they would have to have a body cavity search to find the tampon/menstrual cup to determine they are going to do yet another body cavity search. Unless are they expecting women to declare whether or not they are currently using tampons or menstrual cups. Just say you aren't then. How would they ever know without the body cavity search in the first place?

The answer is no. Any attempt to conduct one should be met with the maximum effort of violence against the person trying to conduct it. Bite fingers off, stab pens through eyes if you must, but never subject yourself to such a search.

My cycle was a trial.

I am so thankful it is over.

It was more frequent than normal and it generally lasted 10 days.

The first three days I would go through three super tampons and soak a pad in the three hours between a break at work.

You can't imagine how delighted I am to be done.
