I think Kavanaugh is making a terrible mistake.

One of two things will happen. Either he will be confirmed or he will not. If he is confirmed, these stories will continue to drip. He is risking being impeached from SCOTUS. If he is not confirmed, the longer this goes on - and the more stories that break - the greater the risk he will be impeached from the DC Circuit.

It's a lifetime appointment: he's betting most people will forget about him in a year or so, and removing him from the court will be very difficult once he's in. So he's putting up with a big of flack for the long-term payoff.
