We've been governed too long by the whims of a minority of our population. A president who lost the popular vote. A senate that dis-proportionally represents the population. A gerrymandered "representative" body that has been artificially manipulated to alter the balance of membership in favor of the minority of the country. And now measures to solidify that minority rule in the judicial branch of government. And you wonder why our country is coming apart at the seams?
No country that has labored under minority rule for too long has thrived, or even survived. There are plenty of examples of nations ruled by ethnic or racial minorities going afoul and disintegrating. While our situation has a racial and ethnic component to it, it is more an attempt to extinguish diversity of thought. A desperate attempt to strangle the political philosophy of a majority of the country to wrest and retain the control of the minority. If something doesn't change and change soon, this will not end well. Don't want to learn from history? You know how that goes.
You cannot keep the majority of the population down very long. If you alter the legitimate mechanisms of government to keep them down, you're only creating a temporary hold on power, and setting the stage for our own disintegration. We are the majority. We have a chance to take back power through the established structure of government-maybe one last time. If not, then we're facing more of the chaos and disruption we are experiencing right now, only to an ever increasing degree. That movie doesn't end well.

(10,533 posts)I cant believe that people arent talking about this fact every day. Our government is structured to overrepresent the right-wing minority and those structural advantages have become more and more amplified due to population growth and concentration of population in blue states. Meanwhile, the right-wing minority has become so malevolent, anti-democratic and paranoid about losing their advantages that they are using every quasi-legal procedural maneuvers and some blatantly illegal/treasonous maneuvers to entrench their power. This wont end well unless we take radical action to correct our system.
The solution isnt just to vote; thats only the first step. Once we win a majority we must pursue structural reforms to make our system more democratic. I wrote a thread on this a few days back:
