Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) told The Atlantic in an interview Friday night that hed asked for a one-week pause in Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaughs confirmation process so that the FBI can look into sexual assault allegations against Kavanaugh in an attempt to preserve the credibility of two institutions: the Senate and the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court is the lone institution where most Americans still have some faith, Flake said. And then the U.S. Senate as an institutionwere coming apart at the seams. Theres no currency, no market for reaching across the aisle. It just makes it so difficult.
The magazines McKay Coppins asked Flake if he planned to continue supporting Kavanaughs confirmation unless the FBI finds something in the next week that changes your mind?
Yes, the senator, whos retiring at the end of this term, replied. Im a conservative. Hes a conservative.
I plan to support him unless they turn up somethingand they might, Flake added.

(8,081 posts)The man lied under oath about his drinking. You're comfortable with a perjurer as Supreme Court justice?
He was surly, obnoxious, and rage-filled during the last hearing. His temperament alone should be a disqualifier.
The Trump White House has refused to release tens of thousands of documents related to his testimony.
There are now two highly credible charges of attempted rape and/or public exposure.
What the fuck else do you need? A video of him shooting someone?
