Not Now... Professional U.S.A. Golfers are generally Right Wing Oriented.. I use to ignore this fact but not anymore.. Trump has changed everything.. I was happy as hell that the U.S.A. lost today. Last time the USA won the Cup.. American fans were particularly obnoxious! I know European fans can be too. But that USA USA USA chant... is just too much..

(7,399 posts)They all use tons of water, some recycled, some not. They all use tons of fertilizers which drain into the local ponds, lakes and rivers. There are quite a few public golf courses, but many are private.
Sometimes I wonder who is going to foot the bill to maintain these places when the price of a gallon of water skyrockets. Which is something that people smarter than me have also asked. Many of these so-called golfing communities are not rich at all. They are retirement places and often manufactured homes make up a significant part of them. What happens when it becomes too expensive for those retirees to pay the maintenance fees?
I think they may very well start to be the equivalent of abandoned strip malls.
As to your OP, yes. I agree.

(31,261 posts)I don't play golf in Florida, too damned hot most of the time, except in winter.

(42,337 posts)Sept was 10 degrees above average. I've been here 27 years and this is the worst summer ever.
Although, winter has sucked for quite a while. I remember when I'd have to wear sweaters for a couple months or so. Now it's a few weeks at best.

(31,261 posts)So I don't have the cumulative years here that you do. But I know that last winter, the most I did was wear two short sleeved teeshirts during the coldest periods, and I had no issues, often being too warm. No wonder that we have bad red tide and green sludge, with phosphates from lawns and big sugar being put in the water, and with climate change deniers running the state, bad ends are to be expected.

(42,337 posts)1993. My then 6 YO son had to wear a heavy jacket over his Halloween costume.
Fast forward to 2003. My 2ND kid, then 6 YO (yes my kids are 10 yrs apart) tore off his Harry Potter costume halfway into Trick or Treating because he was too hot.
The beautiful pond near our home is overwhelmed with weeds 6 ft high.
FL used to be nice. Now it sucks.

There used to be a bunch of fundies on the tour but I don't know about now.
From 2007:
In a Sports Illustrated survey of 76 U.S. Tour players published in March, 88 percent said they supported the American invasion of Iraq, and 91 percent supported Bushs controversial nomination of Samuel Alito to the U.S. Supreme Court a judge who was welcomed by Republican and fundamentalist Christian groups as the courts swing vote in one day outlawing abortion.

(19,993 posts)is that most of them grew up on golf courses in the south or far west where the playing season is longer. Their parents had the money to buy them country club memberships year after year. They probably took a lot of lessons and hit a million golf balls in order to get real good at a difficult game to get real good at. The expense of doing all that probably explains why the tour is mostly privileged white guys from wealthier families who would vote for a privileged white guy like Drumpf.
I also think Drumpf probably took up the game of golf because it has historically been a privileged white guy's game with few minorities around.

As a true Republican, the 60 million wasn't enough for him so he stole some more via insider trading. And just like a typical Republican he was caught but was allowed to get away with it.

(31,261 posts)They can't accept honestly buying stocks and taking their lumps if the stocks go down in value. They need a sure thing, a surety that they will get a paycheck, even when they finish in 30th place. Surety that any company they put money into will make them more money. They have the risk averse mindset that is destroying American and international companies, they would never put money into a May-be but unproven venture and accept losing money if the venture fails.

(14,565 posts)Worked out perfectly because I wanted Tony Finau to do well for the USA, but for Europe to prevail.
That's exactly how it played out.
Finau is the first man or woman from the long running Big Break series on Golf Channel both to win a tournament and also to play on the premier international team event. Previously several female Big Break alumni -- Kristy McPherson, Ryann O'Toole, Gerina Piller -- had played on the Solheim Cup team, but none of them have won on tour.
With the males it was exactly the opposite: Tommy Gainey, Matt Every and Finau had won events on the PGA Tour, but until this week none of them had played on the Ryder Cup team.
Finau had the most lopsided singles win today...6 & 4 over previously unbeaten Tommy Fleetwood, who was 4-0 in the team competitions paired with Francesco Molinari.
Tiger was a pathetic 0-4 and Mickelson was 0-2
