General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsFirst, there were endless hours of televised discussion about whether a man
nominated for a seat on the US Supreme Court had violently attempted to rape a 15 year old girl when he was 17. That was bad.
Then, there were hours of back and forth about whether this same nominee is a serial perjurer, having lied under oath in Senate testimony both in the recent hearing and in his prior 2006 confirmation proceedings. That was also bad.
But, now----and it is very important, IMHO, that we recognize and acknowledge this----NOW some of these same folks are discussing whether IF this man did try to rape that girl and IF he did in fact commit perjury during his Senate testimony, either of those crimes should disqualify him for a SCOTUS seat.
Will we really participate in this? Will we really permit this "discussion" to take place without raising more hell than this nation has seen since the Sixties?
That's all I got.

(41,853 posts)Republicans may push him though, and if so, the Dems will have to impeach him and Trump if they win the house (and maybe a lot of the Senate) On the other hand, if he is on The Supreme Court nothing can be done about Trump till the next big Presidential election, and he is voted out..but remember we have the Russians to contend with, especially if the Republicans refuse to do anything about the them tampering with our election. IF The Dems fail on the house and Senate, than we may see Democracy disappear as we know it.
That's about right, correct? Did I forget anything?

(24,324 posts)I suspect we are very, very far down the road to an authoritarian right-wing, theocratic dictatorship.
I do not have confidence it can be stopped..

(4,066 posts)Yes, we may win the mid-terms and we may be able to impeach Kavanaugh. There still have to be 66 Senators to vote to convict on the charges. I don't see that happening any time soon.
He really must not be confirmed.

(41,853 posts)whether we like it or not, but if they do, the Supreme court will be worthless, with all those right wingers ruling on laws...
