(20,998 posts)...he'll try and purge the tRump* stink off himself and possibly make a 2020 play, attempting to remake himself as a return to Republican norms pre-tRump*. He'll vote no. At least I hope he does.
JI7
(89,262 posts)who has been critical even if they have a right wing record themselves has little chance of making it.
Flake's best chance for a future political career is probably becoming an independent .
Raster
(20,998 posts)There is a large contingent of never-tRumpers*, former tRumpers*, and "voted for him because it seemed like a good idea at the time" Independenty/GOPy voters that no longer feel part of the Republican party. I think Flake wants to appeal to those voters. tRump*s hardcore, solid base will never deviate from tRump*. He hates the same people they do.

(4,066 posts)He has to vote for Kavanagh to keep in the good graces of all the people he needs lobbying contracts and speaking engagements from. He won't spend a ton of time in AZ worried about the people who will be angry.
Trump will do something egregious and change the headlines soon after the confirmation and he'll be off the hook.
Sorry to be such a downer but that's reality.

(11,885 posts)A lot of them are in that same position , if they vote for him their future is over in politics, especially n close races. They would be stupid to even hold a vote if they don't have the votes, and it'll expose them even more.
kentuck
(111,110 posts)He has no political future as a Republican.
