The Pubs know that if they do the right thing and split with Trump, they lose their entire far right flank, which they need for numbers. It's like a loveless marriage where neither spouse can afford the divorce.

It's the biggest chunk of red meat they can throw their evangelical base.

The simple-minded view politics as just another sport, where they choose a team and then brag about "We won!!!" That's all it is to them. They just want their team to win.

Then could care less what happens to trump.

They follow Mitch McConnell and Donald Trump.

They are both full-scale Machiavellian.

If Rape-anaugh was withdrawn today, Trump will nominate some who is just as ideologically retrogressive/revolting/etc., perhaps without so much personal slime.

Rs support Rape-anaugh so vehemently BECAUSE he is opposed by Democrats. Losing/being wrong, in any form or degree, is not an option for these people, even if they have to deny reality. Hell, these people can't even own up to simple grammatical mistakes.

I think Trump will support him to the bitter end not only because of WINNING, but because Rape-anaugh has such a uniquely distorted view regarding investigations and legal proceedings of a sitting president.

Just about anybody who replaces him would vote identically.

If you look at conservative Twitter, the overwhelming sentiment is that all of these accusations are bogus and capitulating at this point would just signal that the tactic works and they expect it to be deployed against every nominee going forward.
