Internet is a major game changer in politics.
It has also changed the world of religion. Church elders can no longer quietly handle a preacher's scandals in-house or move a 'problem priest' from parish to parish. Many church authorities rail against 'evil bloggers' rather that trying 'to clean up their act.'

Yes, it is powerful, but like all tools, it can be used for evil as well as good.
On the plus side, the Womens March of 2017 was an internet phenomenon, as have been many events since. But so was the RW mob in Charlottsville.
