after it is over which it someday will be, the Republicans will never again mention his name...like with Bush, Jr. They fight unto the death for their valiant Savior and when he totally fucks up and is "relegated to the dustbin of history" it's like he never existed.
Once in a while they'll mention Ronnie, once in a blue moon they'll mention Ike, but when do they refer to the "Great Presidencies" of Nixon, either Bush, Coolidge, or that wonderful candidate who was oh-so-cheated, Thomas E. Dewey?
Never a word...
Remember they said that if Gore were President, great harm would befall the USA...well, we had a grotesquely unnecessary war and economic collapse. No mention made of Junior and his puppet-master Dick.
Wotta bunch.

(15,391 posts)It's like the last president they had always tends to disappear from the public eye because 1) they want to. They figure they've done their time trying to screw over ordinary Americans and deserve a break. 2) The public has a lower opinion of them at the end of their terms so republicans can't ride any coattails and 3) Even if they accomplished some stuff that republicans wanted, they still leave the country worse off than they found it, leaving congressional repubs holding the bag. Our guys take a vacation and then start back up doing stuff to help people - building houses, foundations, etc. and they're embraced by ordinary people.
No one really mentions W. and he's fine because he's off painting his little pictures. Dad lost to Clinton so they don't like him, and he essentially retired to play golf. The younger generation can't seem to pull off the deification of Reagan that their seniors can since they didn't live through his presidencies so they don't go to that well as frequently. Ford and Nixon... 'nuff said. Eisenhower might get a name drop every once in a while when they're fantasizing about returning to the "good ol' days," when there weren't any Blacks on TV. And then Lincoln is mentioned when they need to remind people that REPUBLICANS FREED THE SLAVES!!! Did you know republicans freed the slaves? Blacks should totally vote for us because Lincoln was a republican... did you know that?
If things hold true to form, when Trump is done, he's going to be surprised that republicans don't want him around anymore, and his ego is not going to handle that well.
