The Latest Republican Rhetoric Around Brett Kavanaugh's Accusers Is Grotesque
Mitch McConnell's crew is relentless.

Mitch McConnell, Majority Leader of the United States Senate and one of the least excusable humans of the 21st Century, would like democratic accountability to get off his damn lawn.

I’m not suggesting we’re the victims here.

Now watch him make a bigger liar out of himself than he already is.

But I want to make it clear to these people who are chasing my people around the hall here or harassing them at the airports or going to their homes: We will not be intimidated by these people. There is no chance in the world they’re going to scare us out of doing our duty,” he said. "I don’t care how many people they chase, how many people they harass here in the halls, I want to make one thing perfectly clear: We will not be intimidated by these people.

"These people," of course, are the survivors of sexual assault who have been counseling their elected officials on the effects of handing a lifetime Supreme Court gig to a guy who has been accused of having committed assault. "These people" are harshing the mellows of towering political figures like Chuck Grassley, Joni Ernst, and Tom Cotton, the bobble-throated slapdick from Arkansas, who, not content with having submarined President Barack Obama with the Iranian mullahs, has managed to bring his own unique brand of shabby opportunism into this controversy as well.

One of the true stink bombs amid the current conservative talking points is the notion that it was the Democrats who really betrayed Dr. Christine Blasey Ford. You would think that the president*'s grotesque performance in Mississippi on Tuesday night would have killed that one off, but McConnell went right back to it on Wednesday. The problem is that anybody on that side of the Senate Judiciary Committee could have asked Dr. Ford if she felt betrayed. However, none of them did because none of them had the guts to ask Dr. Ford anything, leaving all their time to Rachel Mitchell, the human shield flown in to handle this chore. Sarah Huckabee Sanders spit up the last ashes of her utterly immolated soul to pitch this line at her now occasional press briefing on Wednesday afternoon.

Meanwhile, the conservative apparatus, in and out of Congress, has spent a couple of days promoting leaked documents that intimated that Julie Swetnick and, to a lesser extent, Dr. Ford herself, were simply lying, and that Swetnick was That Kind of Girl. These people hate women and they know they have an audience of people who hate women. Grassley is just an old fool who'll do what he's told. McConnell belongs in a zoo. I am saying, "Man, fck these fcking guys" much more often than I used to.
