The little box on Facebook says, "What's on your mind?" So I answer.

And most of the time, since DT, I am not posting pictures of our dogs or the flowers I saw on the trail.

I don't blame people who hate FB, but I have been happy to find friends on it from high school and college, other people I've lost touch with, new friends, and second and third cousins I've never met in person.

So I'm not leaving it -- I'm using it to reach out to people I know, about things I care about; to give them information they might not have run across in their busy lives.

And every once in a while I get a private message like this, from a distant relative in a red state:

I just want to say a huge thank you to you. I've never missed a vote since I turned 18. However (huge however) I had become complacent on expressing my views and fighting for what I feel is right. Reading your posts I now realize change will only happen if people like me stand up for what is right.

And that keeps me going.
