"One copy of the FBI report. No more than an hour to review it. No ability for any follow up. Then a rushed vote.
For 2 years, McConnell has been carefully and purposefully breaking the Senate. This is the final blow. No comity or tradition left. Its just about power politics."
(Updated to add that other sources are saying it is a single copy for the entire senate, which Republicans will have an hour to review, then Democrats will have an hour to review, then back to the Republicans for an hour, etc. So Senator Murphy may have slightly jumped the gun or misunderstood. But it is still outrageous.)

(51,627 posts)He was the nail in the coffin after the Tea Party.
"After the end of the Cold War, he said, tribal politics were introduced by Newt Gingrich when he came to Congress 40 years ago, and then perfected by Mitch McConnell during the Barack Obama presidency, when McConnell declared his intention to use his G.O.P. Senate caucus to make Obama fail as a strategy for getting Republicans back in power."

(131,107 posts)distributed to all senators, one to each office, and they've been given a 1-hour deadline to review it?

(8,207 posts)also I've edited the OP to reflect other sources saying that each party will be able to view the document in one hour increments, not one hour total. An hour for the Republicans, then an hour for the Democrats, then the document goes back to the Republicans, etc.
Clearly a F-ed up process.

(22,913 posts)There aren't enough hours in the time left for all Senators to fully review that sole copy of the truncated background check. They are in full rush mode.

(1,975 posts)Is not being passed out, emailed or copied. It is being kept in a secure room, inside a property pouch that has to be signed to open and close it.
They did it this way so they know who is looking at it, and when. From there they would be able to backtrack any type of leaks.

(15,805 posts)any court. The Republicans are scraping the bottom of the barrel to get him seated when they had other picks avalable. Trump thinks this will save him, and maybe it will, I sure don't have much hope for a different outcome.

(9,670 posts)They will not give the Republicans a taste of their own medicine. Because that's not what Democrats are. Democrats believe in the rule of law, in the separation of powers, in the building of consensus.
I'm proud of them for that. But I'm also sad. Those rat bastard Republicans deserve to be waterboarded.

(8,685 posts)They are manipulating the rules and utilizing loopholes to their advantage. If we do the same then the rules and laws and traditions don't matter. It then becomes a free for all and chaos reigns. I think eventually the rule of law wins but short term the Rethug assholes have the advantage.

Our 'forgiveness' of their Treason has been fucking this country over for at least a hundred and fifty years.
It's time for a very, very painful lesson.

I suggest our Dems read the report out loud to get the most time to digest and debate among themselves.

(26,319 posts)Eventually the Repugnants will be out of the majority and come next time we have the majority in Congress as well as the White House our guys could ram some of their own changes through down the throat of the Repugnants such as increasing the number of SCOTUS judges and the Repugnants will only have themselves to blame if that happens.

(10,274 posts)If that were the case, Jr and Cheney would have faced impeachment charges.
Not from this crop. The only way kav won't be seated is if enough repubs don't want to run on their yes vote, that they willing risk Yertles wrath and vote no.
That's not to say that when we retake congress, his ass should be impeached from the bench.
For damn sure.
