For all of you worrying about President Obama being too nice to Ryan, get a grip. Whatever else you think about the President, the guy knows how to campaign and how to fight.

At a campaign stop in Council Bluffs, Iowa, President Barack Obama hammered newly minted Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan for "blocking" a farm bill that Obama says would "provide relief and certainty to U.S. farmers and ranchers" during the worst drought in more than 50 years.
The drought is a new line of attack from Obama on the campaign trail on a day when both he and Ryan are campaigning in the crucial Midwest battleground state. And it comes just two days after Ryan was introduced as Mitt Romney's running mate.
Here are some excerpts from Obama's speech, per his campaign:
Right now folks here in Iowa and across the heartland are suffering from one of the worst droughts in 50 years. Farmers and ranchers depend on a good crop season to pay the bills and put a roof over their heads, and I know that things are tough right now.
The best way to help these states is for leaders in Congress to pass a farm bill that not only helps farmers and ranchers respond to natural disasters, but also makes necessary reforms and gives them some long-term certainty. But right now, too many members of Congress are blocking that bill from becoming law. Now, Im told Governor Romneys new running mate might be around Iowa these next few days. And hes one of those leaders of Congress standing in the way. So if you happen to see Congressman Ryan, tell him how important this farm bill is to Iowa and our rural communities. Its time to put politics aside and pass it right away."

(44,164 posts)Obama has colluded with the 1% to make sure Ryan was chosen as Romney's VP. According to certain DU'ers, this secret plot is so that Obama can defeat Romney/Ryan and then implement Ryan's budget in his second term.
So consequently Ryan and Obama are just the same, so it doesn't matter who wins/

(3 posts)The Ryan-Romney ticket moves the debate even beyond the budget and the economy into morality.
The Ryan Plan is so damaging to social programs benefiting our poorest and most vulnerable citizens that it prompted the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops to publicly blast the devout Catholic for not just tearing holes in the nation's safety but for his "shredding of the nations moral obligations."

(6,440 posts)The teachings of the Catholic Church and Ayn Rand are diametrically opposed (and I'm not a Catholic, btw, I'm Orthodox). Islam is closer to Catholicism than Objectivism is, yet anyone who described Mohammed as their idol, made his staffers read the Qu'ran and then claimed to be a "devout Catholic" would be laughed out of office.
Oh, and welcome to DU. I wasn't attacking you for describing him as a "devout Catholic". That's how he describes himself, and I don't think it should go unchallenged.

(1,374 posts)Every single vote and irrational attempt at obstruction by Ryan with the ridiculous House Rethugs can now be attached to the R&R ticket.
Smooth move picking a member of the teapublican House for VP Mitt!

(28 posts)If we don't do a better job of exploiting the obstruction of repubs for the last 3.6 years... we're in trouble.
They can't block and then blame us for not trying.

(136 posts)Nice move by the President to bring up Ryan's blocking of the much-needed farm bill. That kind of attack will get plenty of traction in Iowa.
I really think that the campaign needs to remind the voters of the brazen obstructionism of the GOP House and Senate members. People need to be reminded that that these Rethugs consistently put party and politics above the good of the country. Let's not forget McConnell's unforgettable phrase: "Our top priority is to deny this President a second term."
I hope we see more of this theme in the campaign ads. The sooner, the better. I hope the campaign is just biding their time to come up with some hard-hitting ads at the just the right time.
And, yeah, Ryan is what one media type called "a target-right environment". (I think I got that right. )

Any mention of Rmoney's promise to end subsides for wind energy? Iowa farmers with turbines on their land are not real happy with that.
