KY-GOV: Beshear raises nearly $700k for 2019 campaign
FRANKFORT Democratic Attorney General Andy Beshear announced Friday he has raised nearly $700,000 for his announced 2019 campaign for governor.
Beshear and his running mate, Jacqueline Coleman, filed their first quarterly report with the Kentucky Registry of Election Finance. The campaign said in a press release that it raised $691,760 during the period and retains $578,964 cash on hand.
We are thankful and excited for the overwhelming support Kentuckians have shown for this campaign, Beshear said. Our fundraising report shows that our message of fully funding public education, respecting our teachers, creating good-paying jobs, restoring decency and addressing the opioid epidemic resonates with Kentuckians from all political parties.
Beshear is the only announced Democratic candidate for governor next year but others are expected to follow. Incumbent Republican Gov. Matt Bevin plans to seek re-election but hasnt yet formed a 2019 slate, a requirement to begin raising money.
Other Democrats openly considering the race are House Minority Leader Rocky Adkins, D-Sandy Hook, and Attica Scott of Louisville. Others whove been mentioned are Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes and former state auditor Adam Edelen.
