(14,034 posts)I may not have changed very many mindsets in my life thus far, but I'll always try to end hatred.
It's not easy to struggle on thinking that the full benefits of one's labors might only be enjoyed by people as yet unborn, but hope keeps me going.
No one who confronts injustice is ever truly standing alone. Our strength and the value of our future lie in our diversity.

(6,007 posts)and in Hawaii, I was the minority race. Almost all of my teachers were Asian. All of the authority figures in school were Asian. You get used to it. Nothing scary about it. Best teacher in my life was Miss Suyat. People are just people. Period.

Hey, if they had the stripes, you obeyed their orders. Just the way it was.

(24,324 posts)I'm not tired of being white. I'm just tired of almost everybody else in the town where I live being white.
Although, in the last few years I have seen and met, gradually, more and more people of a 'darker SKIN' persuasion and just different cultural backgrounds. In the park, around town. I love it. It is no issue here either, which is wonderful, as it is a pretty open community.. Humm..... on the other hand... I wonder when it will reach the point that there are TOO MANY who are not 'white.' Get my drift...
My ex-wife is Chinese.. She used t call this town "white bread village."
And she called P F CHANG's "Chinese food for white people," (Boy, ain't THAT the truth.)
I travel to Asia frequently, well..not frequently enough..... always feel more at home in South Korea, Japan (next month), Taiwan and China. many good friends.

(10,064 posts)The law passed in Iowa outlawing abortion once a fetal heartbeat can be detected is one of the most restrictive in the nation and an Iowa judge has already stayed its enforcement, so it could go to the Supreme Republican Court quickly. Trump and Republicans will want this as a reelection strategy for 2020. If they succeed in overturning Roe, I think the best we can hope for is that states will not be prohibited from making their own laws. Abortion will still be available, but women will need to travel to blue states to get one, which will likely be impossible for poor women and women who cannot take time off from work or from caring for children or parents.

(37,648 posts)The Democratic Party actually has a lot of white males and white females. So it's false to paint the image of the Democratic Party as only brown or gay or whatever. It's everyone, including those who have been discriminated against.
It could have the effect of pushing away whites, when the party is misrepresented as being unfriendly to whites. And possibly revving up the base of the other side, if it's perceived as attacking not their positions on issues, but what they were born as.
The Democratic Party is about every income level but particularly to include the working and middle class, the economy, health care, senior programs, programs for the needy, the environment, climate change, civil rights, voting rights, the disenfranchised, legal immigration, unions, and other things. It includes everyone who cares about these issues.

(24,324 posts)On the other hand, there certainbly is truith in what you say.
Take a look at pictures of the civil rights marches of the sixties, as an example, and you'll see a richly diverse group of people working together for common goals.
Inclusivity and diversity should mean that nobody gets shunted off as excess baggage.

(37,648 posts)She was peacefully protesting the neo-Nazis and alt-right, when she was murdered.
White men were killed in the civil rights fight.
We don't want the party to turn its back or not protect the interests of everyone, as long as they support the Platform. America is getting more diverse. The Democratic Party is the home of much of that diversity. That's a good thing. But it is also the home of millions of whites, many of whom have voted reliably Democratic for decades. If we don't continue to be their home, too, that's bad news. Besides, it would be against the Democratic Party's values.

(37,648 posts)I have more of a problem with every state having 2 senators than the EC. This gives a small population area equal power to tens of millions in another area.
