-snip-
As The Hollywood Reporter reports, Farrow hinted at the New Yorker Festival that there may be more Kavanaugh accusers who may come forward in a different context.
We are seeing every shred of information spun and weaponized and turned into a political football, Farrow said. It is very clear the effect that partisan snipping has had on the potential of additional information coming to light. There are more sources who might come forward in a different context.
This politicized race to confirm .. has precluded the truth coming to the fore in a way that could help everyone involved, he continued. There was a battle over the truth, and the truth lost a lot this week.
He told the sold-out crowd that he felt his career was at rock bottom a year ago as he was investigating the allegations surrounding Harvey Weinstein.
This was a moment for me personally where I didnt know if i was going to have a journalism job in 2 weeks, or 2 months, or ever again, Farrow expressed. The truth is I wasnt swaggering into those rooms. I was scared shitless and I was heartbroken and I had absolutely no idea if i was doing the right thing.

(23,364 posts)Either way, whether we "snip" at the article or "snipe" at it, the article only hints at revelations that will be too late to help. Might as well just drink beer. Kavanaugh will be a Supreme Court justice.

(2,656 posts)It is no big deal. I pointed it out because I knew other readers noticed it, too, and I wanted to attenuate that glitch so that the merits of the article could be discussed.
As you point out, Kavanaugh will be seated, but many at DU though that would be the case even after Monday's delay came about.
I do hope that any woman with a narrative to tell in this matter finds the proper venue at the time which is right for her to relate her experience.

(37,648 posts)"Well, aren't YOU snippy today!" "Quit being so snippy." It had a different meaning from snipe.
I looked it up. Snip means literally a sharp, short, cut, as with scissors. But we grew up using that as relates to language or temperament.
Snipe means sarcasm or a disparaging comment.
I didn't realize "snip" didn't mean a sharp cut as relates to language or temperament. Interesting. But I guess one could use it that way. Same meaning, but applied to something other than scissors.

(15,139 posts)that can be pursued - criminal and/or civil complaints against Kavanaugh. The R's and their pick may well have overplayed their hand and won the battle, but may still eventually lose the war. One can hope justice, though elusive, will somehow prevail.

(5,856 posts)Still, it seems that the powers-that-be are more afraid of the RWNJs and monied interests than the masses and will make one excuse after another to just move on.

(498 posts)And if it were democrats who put up a supreme court nominee and pushed him through and republicans trying to harass him/her right back out.. I'd say there was a chance.
But be honest... we give in easily and fast. As soon as kavanaugh is confirmed, trump will commit some new atrocities and everyone will forget all about kavanaugh.

(15,139 posts)I know there are some here who take great umbrage at any hint of criticism, but the reality is the current leadership are hardly Rockys in the ring. I'll leave it at that.

(11,885 posts)They will come forward, and hopefully all women who have had affairs , or are having illicit affairs with any republicans , including trump , come forward exposing them for doing this to us all. There's more women then men, and now is the time for all women to unite together against this , or do nothing as more women are sexually abused without consequences. Most men are on their sides, and we need to fight them with their own medicine , and will if we can get control of both the House and the Senate, especially now the Senate, or it'll continue, and get much worse . The truth will be their worse nightmare exposing their vote for a corrupt lying criminal was a huge mistake, and he'll be completely exposed. Every day the truth comes out , they'll regret their votes.

(10,064 posts)This nomination has been just one more battle in the dirtiest politics I have seen in my lifetimeand it will get worse in the runup to 2020. We need a campaign image of Melania Trumps jacket with the word Republicans placed at the top. Republicans to Women: We really dont care. Do you?

(7,142 posts)So what? That's their problem and we can make it their downfall come November.

(37,648 posts)But then, Farrow is saying that's not the point, that the political angle is a hindrance to the process of women coming forward. But ...women wouldn't be coming forward, if it weren't for the Supreme Court angle. After all, Kavanaugh has been a judge for decades.

Screw them. The truth must come out, even though they may not get 67 votes in an impeachment - let the truth come out, and make Republicans vote against impeachment of visibly appalling SC Justice. Use that then in the 2020 elections.

(7,412 posts)Talking impeachment and staying on Kavanaugh for the next month will just bolster the GOP turnout in the ND, TN, AZ, IN, TX, FL and WV Senate races. It will also trickle down into many Governor races, GA is close, FL is close, etc, an extra percent for the GOP may guarantee them a victory in those close races

(37,648 posts)But I've seen this sort of thing before. The Republicans or some groups do illegal things that hurt the country, people come out and vote for the Democrats, who promise to take control of the situation. Then when the Democrats get in power, they move forward with their/our forward-looking agenda, and do not pursue those criminals from the past. It distracts from the mission at hand, it does bog the country down, it costs money.
Example: All the crimes committed that led to the Great Recession or the Iraq War. No one was held accountable, except one little guy who was charged with hiding billions before the crash. The big boys were not prosecuted. In fact, the country bailed out their companies.
And so here we are again...deregulation again. A huge tax cut that the country has to borrow $1.5 Trillion to pay for...again. Another recession coming. If we'd prosecuted some of the criminals before, it might have helped prevent some of the crimes that surely be happening, again.
I understand moving forward, though. It bogs us down, diverts attention from health care and other pressing matters.
So I think it will be that way with Kavanaugh, as far as the politicians are concerned. Whether individuals can make any headway on their claims, I don't know. But if they go to court, and it's appealed, does the S.Ct. decide? This is unchartered territory.
