(226 posts)The Republican Senators that performed this work. Collins was one of 2 women. Its the men that forced this. The sting we feel from Collins is sharp, though. Just Imagine what it's like with her face forward female staff. But it's the men that did it.

(81,466 posts)I think in other circumstances thats how youd have to describe her. Betraying women to stand with the bad guys - one in particular. A sellout for certain. Slapping her sisters in the face and stabbing them in the back.
Oh I trust him. He assured me he wouldnt up-end Roe v Wade...
Yeah, suuuuuuuuure. And youd trust him as an unsuspecting 15-year-old girl with him at some kegger party back then too, correct? And youd trust his word after hes lied and misled and misdirected and fudged the truth and weasel-worded while under oath as well?
You gave him the benefit of the doubt even AFTER hearing her testimony. They both cant be right. Especially when one of the two who gave testimony bellows and obfuscates and denies while the other is calm and clear and certain of what happened to her. And you cant say it happened the way HE says it did after others who have a different story wanted to come forward with it and were denied, blocked, and silenced.
I too will support the candidate who decides to run against you in 2020.

(13,305 posts)...I mean I've heard and read her called a "moderate Republican" and a "pro-choice Republican" by folks on here even. Could that possibly have never been true? Could she possibly not be one of our "friends across the aisle".
As the old saw goes..."Nobody could have predicted....".

(599 posts)While they might gnash teeth over President Baby Hands' deplorable behavior, they still vote with him and their party a majority of the time. They are still Republicans who love tax cuts for the wealthy, cuts to entitlements and empowering capitalists over labor.
...yet most of our "plans" over the past 15 years or so seem to have been predicated on wooing these mythical creatures, either in the Senate or the voting booth.
Which explains why we are in the situation we are in.

(33,414 posts)There is a crowd-source fund to raise money for Collins' opponent in 2020. When she announced she was voting for Kavanaugh, the fund skyrocketed. The typical donation to replace Collins is $20.20.

Not one of these 5 women called for throwing out Brett and appointing conservative Amy Coney Barrett instead. They chose to double down on the perverted frat boy their idiot president selected.
Is very accomplished, but she is no more different on abortion that Schlitz Kavanaugh. Though I admit her statements and rulings do suggest her faith would have not have lead her judicial application.

(420 posts)but when she so reverentially addressed "Mr. President" in her speech , I really wanted to puke!!!!!! Give the idiotic speech but she didn't need to lay it on thick for Tiny Hands. That, to me, said it all. Sucking up to the Rump after she tried to seem so independent. What a phony!!!
Susan Collins is disingenuous, she is a pompous ass, and she is a sack of shit.

(1 post)I completely agree with you about her speech. It was one of the most dishonest, cynical speeches I have ever heard. I'm not sure Collins truly believes the words herself.
But to be fair, I believe when Senators say "Mr President" in their speeches, it is referring to the President of the Senate and not President of the USA. I believe all Senators are supposed to do this by protocol.

(15,139 posts)Imagine her in an airport or a restaurant or a store or at a sporting event or at the movies -- literally anytime and anywhere she appears in public. On every occasion and in every venue she will be approached by strangers who will collectively make her life a living hell with their own stories of sexual abuse and their "fuck you's." She'll be gawked at, pointed at, shouted at, and reminded constantly that she is the disgraceful corrupt betrayer of women who put an alcoholic would be rapist on the Supreme Court.
I predict she will not run again in 2020. How could she? It would be a humilating defeat. The best she can hope for is that she can find a place to hide and live out her life in seclusion and shame as an object of ridicule and contempt.

(22,166 posts)policies what-so-ever. The party of NO NO NO has evolved into the party of TAKE TAKE TAKE and give it to billionaires and millionaires, none of whom really needed the tax cuts of 2018. We really didn't need the extra jobs either since most of them being created now are low paying, minimum wage jobs. Who needs these kind of jobs? Perhaps if they put more of a burden on the wealthy to pay their fair share of the federal debt e.g., since they have a significant share of the income and wealth in this country, it should be a one for one basis. It's not, not by far.
And they are not done yet. Just wait. More restrictions on voting rights, more attempts on the ACA repeal, more tax cuts for the wealthy, no more federal parklands, all federal lands will be opened up for mining and drilling (w/ no royalties to the US taxpayer either), destruction of our environment, etc., basically just making a whole mess of things.
Like I said before in prior posts, these people will have no rest anywhere anymore. They don't deserve it.

I have no doubt Kavanaugh will be the final vote to over turn Roe v. Wade BUT will she give a S**t....?!
She is untouchable even voting her out of office will not have any impact on her life.
This is what makes me the most angry. All of the Collins/McConnells/Ryans in the congress are ultimately free of redress. Redress where it really hurts. Privileged class.

(19,970 posts)She pointed to Planned Parenthoods opposition to Justices Sandra Day OConnor and Anthony Kennedy, who were nominated by President Ronald Reagan, and Justice David Souter, who was nominated by President George H.W. Bush.
I would note that Planned Parenthood opposed three pro-choice justices just because they were nominated by Republican presidents: David Souter, Sandra Day OConnor and Justice Kennedy, said Ms. Collins. They said the same thing, women will die. This is just outrageous.
She damn well knows Kavanaugh is an anti-abortion RWNJ, so she is just trying to spread the shit.

(11,885 posts)To hurt women, and this country for the rest of her life. She's the one who'll read the stories that'll be coming out from them not fully investigating this criminal and knowing she voted for him, and he may be a gang rapist . She'll have to face the American people for allowing a serial liar , and corporate shill to damage all credibility of the Supreme Court, and the rule of law. History will not be kind , or karma, and karma is a bitch they say. Her and her co-conspirators will be regretting what they did to us all soon enough. This won't end up good for any gop member of Congress.
