I have to agree with Digby here.. just shoot me now!
And we can finally rid ourselves of that fake narrative that Collins is some kind of 'moderate' Republican. She has now sealed her place in history as the single person responsible for the most conservative and corrupt Supreme Court in US history ..........
SEN. SUSAN COLLINS: "The one silver lining that I hope will come from this is that more women will press charges now, when they are assaulted," the Maine Republican tells @FaceTheNation

(5,376 posts)I don't understand why anyone gives her any benefit of the doubt. Collins is not being pressured by McConnell to do anything. She is fully complicit. Her moderate act is fake. She only votes against her party when her vote isn't needed. They are strategic votes that McConnell allows her to take in order to fool her constituants into thinking she is a moderate so they will keep voting her in.

(23,946 posts)a witness, knowing Judge is beasties with Brett?
Why did the prosecution not call Judge...oh, yeah, because Republicans led by Collins are pushing the propaganda that Ford got a fair hearing in a "criminal trial"... where the prosecutor was allowed to call only one witness and no other evidence...in front of a hand picked men only Jury with no judge...just like a real trial.

(3,438 posts)...time and time again she and other congressional republikkklans are up to their same ole chicanery...lying, cheating etc., and still dems give her, them the benefit of the doubt--then were shocked whenthey renege once again. What's the definition of insanity?
Some wise DU'er aptly described Collins as disingenous [not candid or sincere; synonyms: insincere, dishonest, untruthful, false, deceitful, duplicitous, lying, mendacious; hypocritical] Disingenous also describe Flake, Corker Murcowski, and other "moderate" republicans including and perhaps worst of all is DINO--Manchin.

(51,624 posts)I was so pissed off I went to tell my neighbor (another Kavanaugh hater). Collins was NEVER even considering that he may have been guilty. She just wanted to stop people from harassing her for a week. Now she will be harassed more than ever I hope. She garners no respect from anyone with self respect.

(205,855 posts)And Heidi Heitkamp faces her voters in a month. I was quite impressed with her on "60 Minutes." And, as we know, most voters aren't paying much attention and/or have short memories- except us, of course. *sigh*
KelleyKramer
(8,982 posts)And they haven't even had the primary yet, so that's 3.5 mil in donations for literally an un-named opponent
I don't think she will run again anyway, she wants to cash that Koch Brothers/Federalist Society pay check.. and now she has a warchest waiting on her opponent and that gives her 3.5 million more reasons to not run
But I wish she WOULD run, and instead of retiring she gets thrown out at the ballot box. Grrrrrrh!!!
Rhiannon12866
(205,855 posts)I wouldn't be surprised if there are repercussions. The one I'm worried about is Heidi Heitkamp, she had the same tough choice to make and did the right thing despite having to face her voters in one short month.

(10,053 posts)She claimed she voted with Republicans because McConnell promised her that they would do something about healthcare later, which of course never happened. She is either the stupidest person in the Senate or one huge faker. Shes just as rabid as the rest of Republicans. I hope whoever runs against her, for either the Senate or Governor, hangs her poor judgment around her neck.

(14,160 posts)The coast votes mostly blue... when you get up into the sparsely populated and rural areas they can vote very red. Get out of the cities and the college towns where the NRA types proliferate and they are relibly red voters and proud of it.

(10,721 posts)Vermont has Sanders and Leahy. New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Delaware all have 2 Democratic Senators.
Meanwhile, Maine has Angus King and Susan Collins. In addition to promising she would end her Senate career after 2 terms and repeatedly pissing people off with her "I only pretend to be a reasonable person" act, Collins also comes across as being pretty damn stupid. Yet she won her last election by 37 points. And she won in 2008 by more than 20 points, even though Obama took the state by 17 points. I guess all I'm saying is that Maine ought to be able to come up with a candidate who can beat Collins.
LibDemAlways
(15,139 posts)she is approached by strangers who tell her exactly what they think of her and her vote for Kavanaugh. I hope she is forced to endure insults daily - in restaurants, movies, airports, church, at the store -everywhere. I hope it gets so bad and is so relentless that she feels compelled to resign and retreats behind closed doors to a remote corner of the planet never to be heard from again. It can't happen fast enough. What a disgrace and pathetic excuse of a woman.

(5,810 posts)Does she really think after the debacle of the past few weeks that women will be MORE likely to come forward? If anything, they will probably be more inclined to keep it quiet and take it to their graves. She should be ashamed of her part in all of this madness but sadly, she still thinks she is on the right side of the issue. As a survivor of a sexual assault, I can assure her that you never ever forget the person who did that to you. Even if it was a long time ago. You may lose some of the finer details but the actual assault is seared into your memory like it was put there with a branding iron. So, no....Dr. Blasey-Ford is not mixed up in her facts. Susan Collins is mixed up in her logic on just about everything to do with sexual assault and its aftermath.
In two days, I am going on a much anticipated Viking River Cruise in France to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. I hope I can separate myself from all of the political shenanigans that Ive followed closely since well before the 2016 election. Things have gone steadily downhill since tRumps stolen election and I am worn to a nub worrying about things that should not be in doubt.....like our Democracy and the trustworthiness of our governing bodies. So I think I need and deserve a break from it for a while. Enough is enough.
P.S. My husband and I mailed in our ballots as one of the last things we did before we left home. So that is already done. I know my vote wont keep Matt Gaetz (the little weasel) from being re-elected, but I have some hope that my vote FOR Gillum will help elect him as Gov and my vote for Bill Nelson will make sure Rick Scott never gets to see the inside of the Senate side of the Capitol.
