GOP Nightmare Comes True As Women Are Fleeing Republicans After Kavanaugh Confirmation

The Republican theory that Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation to the Supreme Court will help them in the upcoming midterm elections took another hit on Monday as new polling shows just the opposite is true.

According to CNN, female opposition to the Republican push to confirm Kavanaugh shot up by double digits since last month, from 42 percent to 55 percent.

The complete breakdown of CNN’s survey shows how Kavanaugh’s unpopularity has surged among all groups – except, of course, for self-identified Republicans.

Americans overall also believe Kavanaugh’s accusers over him: “All told, 52% of Americans say they believe the women accusing Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct over the judge’s denials of those accusations (38% said they believed him more than the women),” CNN reported.

MSNBC’s Ari Melber discussed the GOP problem with women voters on Monday and explained how the Kavanaugh confirmation has only energized them more with less than a month until the midterms.

Republicans can maintain the Senate (and keep packing courts for two more years) by representing a minority of the country.

Young people will not vote. Non-whites will show up in smaller proportions than whites. Old white racist Republicans will show up and vote.

Oh, I think Democrats will do well. But decades of history has taught me how these things will go.

but everyone who can count past their fingers knows it'll be all about turnout. Who does.

Pippa Norris, "Electoral Integrity Project: Why elections fail and what we can do about it," is a political scientist watching from Harvard (and Australia) and saying, "Vote, vote, vote." These Pew #s show who voted and did not in 2016, but no guesses on what will happen in 22 days.

You have no idea how PISSED OFF women are now, yesterday and tomorrow. Call us Clowns, call us a Mob? Call us Confused?

Women, young people, POC and all those with a moral conscience will show up, vote and knock the shriveled asses of the alt-right, far right and anything compromised and in-between into orbit.

Save the: oh, I think Democrats will do well as the tsunami hits on November 6th.

Get fitted for your life-preserver now.

I think your statement "non-whites will show up in smaller proportions than whites" is incorrect. By all measurable data, black voters, women in particular, contributed the highest percentage of their demographic to the Democratic ticket in 2016, far outpacing by double digits the 'proportion' of white votes cast to Dems.

It appears the term 'proportion' is what makes your statement wrong. Perhaps you're confusing 'proportion' (which means 'percentage') with actual 'numerical count'? Of course, any minority population will have less aggregate numbers to contribute. That is, after all, the reason for the term 'minority.' But as a percentage of voters from within their demographic, I'm pretty sure black women outpace both white men and white women in the percentage of their populace who turn out to vote. If I'm remembering correctly, I believe it was 88% of all black voters who cast their votes for Hillary in 2016; for black women it was somewhere in the 90-something percentile.

Your first statement regarding young people is closer to the mark, but keep in mind that this has pretty much always been the case. Those very same older people who now always show up to vote once made up an apathetic voting demographic themselves when they were young. In recent history, only Obama has been able to effectively tap into the youth market. Bernie figured out how to do it too, but he didn't make it past the primaries.

There's a good deal of evidence pointing to a "backlash" among Millenials choosing not to vote at all in 2016 because they were mad about what happened with Bernie. Hopefully, they've grown up a little over the past two years and realize what taking that position has cost the country.

Millenials now outnumber Baby Boomers. As such, I would suggest to all Democrats that you make it your number one priority to personally drive at least one Millenial to the polling booth this year. I'm taking three, and then I'm taking them all to Starbucks afterwards. How many have you reached out to? How many have you committed to making sure they're voting this time around? Don't complain about it...do something about it.
