Spreading Santorum: Slick Rick says States Should Have Power To Ban Birth Control, Sodomy

Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum, whose strong base of evangelical Christian supporters has thrust him into contention in Iowa, said on Monday that he believes states should have the right to outlaw birth control and sodomy without the interference of the Supreme Court.

In an interview with Jake Tapper on ABC News, Santorum reiterated his opposition to the Supreme Court’s 1965 ruling that prevented Connecticut from banning contraception.

“The state has a right to do that, I have never questioned that the state has a right to do that," he said. "It is not a constitutional right. The state has the right to pass whatever statutes they have. That's the thing I have said about the activism of the Supreme Court--they are creating rights, and it should be left up to the people to decide."

Santorum said he also opposes the Supreme Court's 2003 Lawrence v. Texas decision striking down a ban on sodomy in Texas and 13 other states. Even though he would not personally vote for a ban on sodomy, he said, he thinks states should legally be able to pass them, because sodomy is not a constitutionally protected right. .................(more)

Jesus fed the poor. Theses so-called christians want to starve them. Jesus healed the poor at no monetary cost to them. These Christians demand payment in advance and death to you if you cant pay.

Jesus said blessed are the peacemakers. These christians are war mongers. Santorum already promised to bomb Iran as soon as hes elected and start a possible nuclear war in the middle east. I'm sure the rest of the so called christian republicans share the same views on war.

Jesus paid his taxes without rancor. He said give Caesar whats his and God whats His. All so-called republican christians are 1000% against the rich paying taxes.

Jesus drove the money changers..capitalists...out of the temple with a whip saying they had made his Fathers house into a den of thieves...wall street.

These so called christians LOVE capitalist thieves to death! These people in no way want a society based on the teachings of Jesus Christ.

They want a society based on the insane teachings of Ayn Rand and the love of money over all peoples. Their real god is money honey, filthy lucre, oh yeah.

Matthew 6:24...No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.

Name me one..just one..so called christian republicans running for office or in power now who doesn't serve money and the people who make great gobs of it off the sufferings of humanity.

Michelle Bachmann held a prayer service once begging God to stop the ability of poor people to receive free healthcare! Theres your so called republican christian in action! What a sick joke!

Rick Santorum would not personally vote for a ban on sodomy...

Amazing.

If he wouldn't, who the hell would?

I nevert thought I'd see Rick Santorum run for the center. (For him, that's the center.) I guess he did learn something from his last election in PA.

Except...for gay marriage. Then Ricky wants a constitutional amendment to prevent states from allowing that.

make the move from "it's not in the constitution" to "states should have the right to create laws" that are blatant infringements upon privacy and personal autonomy.

iow, Santorum is not a conservative and neither are any of the other candidates who want to deny women the right to privacy in their own medical decisions. they're theocrats because the basis of their beliefs are grounded in religion, not constitutional ideas of allowing that which is not specifically banned.

I don't think the legislature or the executive should be in the position of "doctor to the people" because most of them are not trained in this capacity and, frankly, it's because so many members of Congress are so stupid about issues concerning science and health that we end up with so much worthless legislation, at both the federal and state level.
