Plus a stranglehold on the Senate due to rural populations having a majority?

Is that what you mean?

They reached the realization that the house and (possibly) senate are lost, so they rammed through Kavanaugh to seal up the SCOTUS before they became unable to do so.

They figured they already lost, doing that wouldn't make it any worse... Losing 2 or 3 more seats wouldn't make that much difference.

This was a last-minute hail mary pass on 4th down and 10. And it worked exactly how they wanted.

However, if they lose too much, the dems can impeach Kav. But, they probably won't. That's something else they're counting on... for dems to be spineless again, as usual.

If Trump is found to have committed treason, as most of us think he has, the dems should impeach both his SCOTUS appointees, IMO. But, they probably won't.

for gaining control of the SCOTUS for the long term......

To me, it is absolutely IMPERATIVE that we regain control of Congress and the presidency, then pack the F**K out of the courts! IMPERATIVE!

Was to take over by judicial fiat. Sure, Republicans can take over the the legislature and executive branch but they know those are temporary. They realized early that they should put the conservatives in the permanent positions.

The Supreme Court will erode voting rights for years. They care nothing about our"democracy", if you could call our gerrymandered, unbalanced and unfair Senate representation, and Electoral College shame a democracy.

Trump could have appointed someone who wasn't an intemperate dipsomaniac with anger issues who has been credibly accused of sexual assault, even someone who believes in a unitary executive.
