Kavanaugh takes active role in first day at U.S. Supreme Court

Brett Kavanaugh spent a collegial first day on the bench as a U.S. Supreme Court justice on Tuesday that contrasted sharply with the venom of his confirmation process, taking an active role in arguments alongside his eight new colleagues.

Kavanaugh, a veteran of such proceedings after 12 years on an influential U.S. appeals court, looked at ease as he asked several questions during two hours of lively oral arguments involving a federal sentencing law for repeat offenders.

...

Kavanaugh posed questions to lawyers in both cases before the court, his first one coming about 20 minutes into the arguments.

At one point, Kavanaugh could be seen having a lighthearted exchange with liberal Justice Elena Kagan, seated next to him. At another point, liberal Justice Sonia Sotomayor appeared to pinch Gorsuch, sitting next to her, to playfully illustrate her point about what constitutes a violent act. Gorsuch responded with a faux grimace of pain.

Justice Kavanaugh Takes the Bench on the Supreme Court.

*Justice Elena Kagan, who sits next to Justice Kavanaugh on the bench, whispered and laughed with him in the moments before the argument began. Justice Neil M. Gorsuch, President Trump’s first appointee to the Supreme Court, took his new seat at the opposite end of the bench, next to Justice Sonia Sotomayor.'>>>

Thomas seemed to have helped Ginsberg when she was taking her chair yesterday at the ceremony. Thankfully, the SC gets along far more than Congress. Has one ever publicly attacked another member in recent times? How about a former member?

He graduated at the top of his class in Yale law college. We just do not know about his sexual aggressive behavior in college...was it even more aggressive than what we heard from Dr. Ford? Investigation is warranted.

...as an undergraduate student at Yale, Kavanaugh did not garner the highest honors possible and was not the top student. He graduated “cum laude.” The designation means simply that he graduated “with distinction,” below those who earned the honors of “magna cum laude” (“with great distinction”) and “summa cum laude” (“with the highest distinction”).

She must have thought he had some intelligence to hire him to be a professor at their law school which is considered to be the top in the country.

How many times I heard Trump say Kavanaugh graduated at the top of his class from law school. My daughter graduated from law school last year "magna cum laude", so I had to assume Kavanaugh must have graduated "summa cum laude" from Yale law school. I am surprised Yale law school does not rank graduating students.

This should have been brought up much more during the judiciary committee hearings. I do not recall Kavanaugh being asked about it. But then I did not watch the entiire proceedings.
