This is a clue of the dumbing down of people in the U.S. They were taught somewhere that voting does not matter.

it's nothing new. it would take something like a military draft or a law making voting mandatory to get a real change.

4. In the Sixties, I couldn't wait to turn 21 and vote. But none of my friends cared at all.

It's not a current generation thing, it's always been this way.

Most of it is because they're fairly detached from the real world at that time. They don't pay bills, they don't go grocery shopping, they don't have their own health insurance, they don't have to pay premiums, etc. It's not until they're in their 20s and start taking on more responsibility that they realize how much everything impacts them. I was the same way.

in fact the next generation is more involved. I have millenials in the family also - the most apolitical bunch I know.
