(22,037 posts)My dad lives near Pensacola and he and his neighbors have decided to ride out the storm. They were installing their shutters and sandbags all day yesterday.
Although I suggested he get out of town, he's going to stay. I told him I thought that was a dumb idea.

(22,037 posts)Hurricane Michael came ashore near Mexico Beach. Those people have borne the worst of the storm, its winds and the storm surge. I hope the best for those folks.
My dad and his friends in Pensacola got lucky as the storm just brushed by them.
I told him it was foolish to stay. The risk is too great.

(6,907 posts)it is moving so fast. That's the only good thing.
EDIT = this is good not only because less time for rain to accumulate and less during damaging winds but also because of the combination - rain soaks ground and looses tree roots and wind knocks down trees.
I am just saying this is only good thing about a bad storm.
